For the past few weeks my daughter has taken 3-4 15-40 minute naps each day and that is it. I don't mind though because she sleeps pretty good at night, and normally she doesn't get to cranky.
if that is the case then 99% you are probably missing his sleep cues.
At his age he should take his first nap around 2hrs after getting up in the AM. And then every 2-3hrs afterwards. So when he gets up- he should be going down around 2hrs later.
there is a VERY VERY fine window to get your kid to nap. if you miss that window- you are going to be screwed. some babies can go longer and some babies need to go down before the 2hr mark.

Def. agree! I am trying really hard to figure this all out! Any advice?

LO has to be swaddled and now hates it! Also, he seems to only go down after a feeding... do I give him a small amount if not ready for his full bottle feeding time yet?
Both of my kids needed to be swaddled and fed to go down for naps until they were a little older. Do whatever works. I always just planned meal time for right around/before nap time- so baby gets a full belly. burped and then laid down with the white noise on.
let me ask this- are you sure he doesn't like the swaddle anymore? is it too tight? My LO slept much better when i went a size bigger with the swaddle- he likes his arms tight but he likes to be able to move his legs around a bit (so he can fart- such a little man). once i went bigger with the swaddle (length wise) he was MUCH happier.

Haha! I went and bought a bigger swaddle yesterday and it def. came in hand last night when he was fighting it... I think he just hated the other one being to short, since he has long legs and it was def too tight because he was growing out of it. The bigger one def works better and stays on better. He tries to escape it, but he really isn't able to. I was able to swaddle and put down after my last post. It may be too late... as I am trying to put him down at night around 830 every night after bath!
for my son, at this age, he was only up for about 30-45 mins in the morning before needing his morning nap. He napped for about 3 hours. then up for 1-2 hours. then nap.
Unfortunately with my sons school schedule I am all over the place with my daughter. Some days she wakes on the way to his school, takes a bottle when we get home and then naps. other times she sleeps through that bottle until 11.
The after noon is hit and miss right now. again still around picking up my son for school, speech therapy, etc..
yup- the swaddle seems to work better when they have room for their legs. too funny that i called that.
What i can say- is definitely try VERY hard to get the first nap in on time and BEFORE he is tired. IF you do well with the first nap- it kinda sets the precedence for the rest of the day and it goes easier. At least that is what i have noticed with both of my kids. So if i try to get nap #1 to be successful- i have much better luck the rest of the day and naps are much much easier.

His first nap was about 2 hours after his morning feeding... it was great and he slept for about 3 hours. I must have missed his next sign for a nap and need to me more on it! Thanks hon!!
no prob. Just keep an eye on the clock and watch him closely if you don't see any signs by around the 1hr 45 min mark- you can try to start your nap routine and see how he does. whatever you do- the BEST thing is just pre-empt the over-tiredness because that = a FUSSY baby later on.
This is all stuff I wish i knew sooner with my DD. once i learned how to read her and preempt the tired phase- life got so much better and napping became a piece of cake
Make sure your little one is not overtired. Put them down for naps about 20 minutes earlier than suggested by the following guideline (since it takes an average of 20 minutes to fall asleep). So, for a 2 month old, the awake time should be about 75 minutes, so put them down at 55-60 minutes.
Guideline for Awake time for babies Newborn 50-60 mins 1 month 60 mins-hour and 15 2 months 1 hour and 15 - 20 mins 3 months 1 hour and 20 - 30 mins 4 months 1 hour and 45 - 2 hours 5 months 2 hours - 2.25 hours Late 5 months/early 6 months 2.25-2.5 hours 6.5 - 7 months 2.75-3 hours. Some are getting more. 8 - 10 months 3 - 4 hours. Some are getting more. 11 - 12 months 3.5 -4.5 hours. Some are getting more if moved early to 1 nap
