So this morning (5 am to be exact!) my DH went in for his 2nd biopsy and to have a varicocele repair. For this biopsy we had a plan in place that if they found any good sperm we would freeze them. I wore my lucky socks the whole time and when the doctor came to tell us (I had Dh's aunt and grandma with me) how it went he said they found lots of sperm!!!!!!!!!!! I think I was so in shock that at first I just kept questioning him...... "were they GOOD sperm?".........."Are you sure?!?!?" LOL! Dh's Grandmother started to cry and I just couldn't get myself to have any reaction. I was kind of feeling like "what's wrong with me...... this is good news!" Once I was able to go back and see my him I was able to tell him the good news....he burst into tears!!! Then my flood gates opened!!! We are both so excited!!

I'm still a little skeptical I just don't know enough about how this works now. When we are finally able to afford IVF how does the process go using frozen sperm?

We're still holding some hope that by a miracle the varicocele repair will have some affect. That way maybe we could use fresh sperm.
Either way, today is a happy day!!!! DH has been sleeping all day which is good because that means he's not in any pain (YET anyways ). He will be off of work for 1 month due to his job requirements, so that will give him plenty of time to heal! After his 1st biopsy he got a hydrocele that was extremely painful!!!

My mom made him soup, so I'm just waiting for him to wake up so he can eat and take all of his medications.
Sorry this is so long! I'm horrible at telling stories. I've also been awake since 2:30 this morning..... the hospital was an hour and a half away from our house!
I'm so thankful for all of the ladies here!! I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but first I'll go Google a little (which I know can be dangerous! LOL!).

Re: Got to put my lucky socks to good use today!!!!!!
Glad to hear everything went well today! As for the forzen sperm, they should freeze it today and in a few days (or a week) they should do a 'test thaw' to check the sperm quality after being frozen then thawed. My clinic doesn't call after the test thaw if it's normal. You could always call though

OMG! I am crying as I read this!!!! So HAPPY FOR YOU AND DH!!!
We have our biopsy Jan 6- I hope we are as lucky as you and DH...
SO HAPPY FOR Y'ALL!
So so so happy for you! this is wonderful news!!
you only need enough sperm for the number of eggs you produce so they can literally choose the best sperm for ivf with ICSI. Even if the sperm is abnormal they can use it to produce the most perfect little one in other word imperfect sperm can produce perfect babies.
TTC #1 since Oct 2006 with severe MFI.
Summer/Fall 2011 - DH on clomid. Helped with morphology and motility, but count still under 1 million.
February 2011 - First RE appointment to discuss options.
March 2011 - We aren't sure what we are going to do right now. DH isn't sure about DS.

Thanks, they didn't mention this but I will call and ask in the morning! This is why I love you girls
Good Luck on the 6th!!!!! Does your DH have a varicocele also? Are you having any sperm frozen if they find them? I'm asking because for my DH's first biopsy we didn't really know about all of our options!!
I love this!!! Thanks :-)
Such awesome news, Y!!! I was going to text you this morning to wish you luck! I thought about you today and finally got a chance to log on to see this great news! Let me know if you need anything!
Thanks! Dh doesn't have one, but the doctor said she feels that because his FSH isn't crazy elevated, that they might find sperm...We have packets to fill out- They gave us packets on cryopreservation, tesa, and ivf consent forms- They told us that they would freeze the tissue if they find sperm- for ivf/icsi. If they don't find anything, they will do genetic testing on it...lots of info...we have to fill out lots of forms...
Our RE did go over how icsi works, and that was neat- she really went into detail- about it... but it seems so far away- if it does happen...
I am so happy for you! : )
I'm so excited for you!! It sounds like you have everything in order. Our first Urologist never really explained everything to us, that is why we switched! I'm so glad you are happy with your doctor that is very important! I can't wait to hear how it goes for your DH!! Also, make sure your husband follows doctors orders for post op! My husband didn't listen the first time and got a hydrocele that was VERY painful!!! This time he has been told he has to lay flat for 1 week (he had 2 procedures this time though). I'm going to make sure he listens!! LOL!
Again, good luck to you and your DH!
That's awesome! My clinic didn't do a test thaw (although that might be because we didn't have a lot of sperm to test with).
You should be good to go with the frozen YAY!
  YAY!
The first biopsy was bilatteral. My husband also played video games for most of his recovery time but he also went grocery shopping and grilled LOL! I think our new Uro is being extra cautious this time but he really said not to sit up at all this time not even in a recliner. I think you just have to be careful not to put too much pressure down there! I've heard others say their husbands recovered quickly, so I hope this is the case for you!!! I also hope they find tons of sperm!!!!!!!!
Awww! Thanks! I was going to call you because I couldn't get on my computer and was so excited to tell someone who would understand the importance of this!!! Thanks for being you :-)
