This one scares me! I already have TONS of hair! I don't want more! Haha? I was actually told by a hairdresser once that I have "too much hair"
5: Your hair falls out
During
pregnancy, we stop shedding for 40 weeks and get a nice, thick head of
hair. But after the baby is born, all that hair that didn?t fall out
during pregnancy starts to shed. It takes a few months to notice the
hair loss ? which can be quite pronounced, especially around the
hairline ? and it?ll start to grow back at around 7 or 8 months
postpartum. Though some women lose more hair than others, almost all
will grow their hair back.
I sure wish someone had shown me that when I was pregnant the first time! I was sweating so bad, I didn't know what was wrong with me! I thought that breastfeeding causes contractions too.. so I just said "oh well, bf-ding.. so gonna have these pains.. " who knew!
I have to say: I am not excited to have to use pads for weeks and weeks. I hate pads. I've used a Diva Cup for the last 7 years, and it is so much better than pads or tampons... but I know I can't use it for post-partum bleeding.
Somehow that bugs me more than the threat of uterus-shrinking contractions or hemorrhoids.

For me it was really just a pad for about a week and after that, it was pantyliners. I would always think the bleeding had stopped and then it would be back! It went on for about 6 weeks.

I wish someone had told me the hair thing with my first. I lost so much hair. I was really freaking out!
Also, I only had heavy bleeding for like a week and a half.
I was so scared for my first bowel movement I barely ate anything for days. It turned out fine. Thanks to stool softeners!
The worse thing for me was I had to have forceips. I didn't tear, but I got little cuts everywhere. It burned soooooooooooo bad to pee for weeks! I would bit my first to go to the bathroom!
Recovery for me was far worse than labor(and I had a hard labor)
YES. That is all true. And it's not always just the first postpartum poop that is scary. I was afraid to poop for weeks after my c/s. Stool softeners and fiber are a must.
As for the pad thing, I think I only had to wear heavy pads for a couple of weeks and then pantiliners for another 4. But (TMI alert) bleeding and wearing pads/pantiliners for that long started to really irritate things down there. I guess it's like the maternal version of diaper rash? No one warned me about that! I ended up stealing my baby's A&D ointment.

Oy! I forgot about the cramps while breastfeeding...and being thirsty constantly. I remember crying once with DD because she was nursing away and I had forgotten to get my big gulp of water...at that moment it was the end of the world!

You will be OK :-) this die hard Divacupper (3+ years now) was OK with the mattress pads and mesh undies, in fact they were kind of comfy. I never had contractions while breastfeeding ever.
I lost so much hair I thought I was going bald. And breastfeeding made me hungrier than I have ever been in my life.

Yeah I don't think I've ever eaten so much in my life as when I was exclusively breastfeeding a 3-6 month old.
I had the contractions while BFing but they didn't really feel like contractions--more like menstrual cramps. They were more annoying than painful. I actually continued to get twinges sometimes when I nursed for months after my uterus returned to normal size. I hear that the BFing cramps are more intense for 2nd+ timers.

The one that I knew nothing about was sweating. It was the worst part of it for me. For weeks I woke up drenched in sweat and when you are nursing it gets a little gross to try to nurse when you wake up all sweaty. I wound up sleeping on a towel.
I love mine because I don't leak, don't feel it in me, don't have to deal with messy tampon strings AND I'm helping the environment, which is a huge added bonus!
I haven't bought any period supplies in 7 years. I only have to empty/check it twice a day (morning and night). I can't feel it when it's in. It just generally makes the whole time of the month a non-event. Oh - and I hated sleeping with tampons because I like to sleep more than 8 hours, and I hated sleeping with pads because they always shifted and leaked. Diva cup = good night's sleep.
I never had issues with sweating, and didn't notice my hair was falling out. I think some of those things may not happen to everyone, but most of them are things that we don't think about!
As far as hospitals providing nice big pads for you to wear after having the baby- my hospital didn't provide near enough! They gave me one depends type pair of underwear to wear with a large pad the first night and that was it! The rest of the bag was filled with little regular absorbency pads. I had to send my mother in law out the day after I had DD to get me some of the biggest pads the store had to offer! This time- I will be taking the big/purple overnight always pads in with me!
Also, I think it's standard procedure to give a mom iron right after giving birth and that also can complicate the pooping process-so yes, ask for a stool softener! I was more terrified of pooping than I was to give birth, and was surprised that it wasn't as bad as I expected!
It is only the greatest invention ever. I never have to pull out a dry tampon (I have psycho periods, they can go from gusher to dripper in no time flat), never leaks, never anything. I empty it morning and night, it cost $30 and lasts for 10 years.

I have the same! Except I am heavy, heavy then so light even those tiny tampons for light periods don't help! The cup is AMAZING! I have got the Diva Wash? works like a charm!
that was really good. I had night sweats that made me call triage nurse....totally normal, but not one tells you that. The only thing I did not have on that list were stitches and hunger. The hair loss is INSANE!

I do not have Diva Wash but maybe I will give it a shot. I am a boiler.
I did not expect/know about the hunger associated w/ nursing--and after we'd been home a few days I woke up extremely sick b/c I was so undernourished, and it was actually kind of scary--so EAT UP! I tend to not be hungry at all when I'm exhausted, so it wasn't that I wasn't eating intentionally, I think my body was just mixed up b/w the nursing and the exhaustion. I won't make that mistake again.
The hair loss completely freaks me out. I'm already losing a ton of hair, to the point that my sister asked if I got my hair cut. I keep asking the Dr and she said oh just take your prenatal vitamins. Well, OBviously they're not helping!
I'm going to stay in denial about the rest of it and deal with it in a timely manner.
I am also a Diva user and have been for 6 or 7 years now.
Re: the pads, I actually used cloth pads and much preferred that route vs. using Always etc. Definitely check out some mama cloth on Etsy or elsewhere. Especially you Diva users, since I know you probably don't get skeevy about that sorta thing
This all sounds so awful! Especially the hair loss.
I guess it couldn't be that bad if people are having more than one baby!
It really is a false kind of hair loss...you might notice while pregnant you lose little to no hair. It can be rather alarming when it starts coming out in what seems like big clumps, but it is really going back to your "regular" hair for the most part.

They are all true, too (well kinda)! I love how the women look like they are in horrible pain.
You feel the contractions when you breastfeed and you can feel a gush of blood come out. It was only for a couple days and they didn't hurt.
The first poop is horrible and that's coming from someone who had a c-section. I wasn't allowed to leave the hospital until I pooped!
Hemmorrhoids don;t happen to everyone. I never had them (knock on wood), so pray you get lucky.
My hair didn't thin either.
Everything else happened. I was crying the day after DS was born, because someday he would go off to college and leave us!

you I just googled Divacup. Why do you love it?
This is what I am the most scared of. I'm the kind of person that needs a lot of fiber to stay regular.
I didn't know about the hair loss... it makes sense.
