How old were your LOs when they got their "longer stretch" of sleep? My DS is 4 weeks and 3 days, and he rarely sleeps more than 2 hours straight. I'm certainly not expecting him to STTN, I know he's very young, but I'm just dreaming of 5 hour stretches. I know they have little tummies and breast milk is digested so quickly, but I just thought I'd be getting at least a 4 hour stretch some nights. He slept 5 hours ONCE but it was from 3:30 in the afternoon to 8:30 at night. I don't think he's ever had a 4 hour stretch, and has a couple 3 hour stretches during the day--never at night though.
As far as pedi is concerned he's getting a full feeding. He is gaining approx an ounce a day and he has plenty of dirty diapers. I often put him down drowsy and he falls asleep on his own, although I'm not against rocking him to sleep before putting him down which I do occasionally as well. Then I get into bed and say a little prayer that I don't wake up for at least 3.5 - 4 hours... but nope, 1.5 - 2 hours, like clockwork, he's up.
What do you guys think? Totally normal, I'm sure...I just need to be patient, my night will come. Any advice?
Re: BFers and Moms of STTNers... help!
Sabrina started sleeping in 5 hour stretches at about 6 weeks. Right before bed she eats, and eats, and eats, and eats! I let her fall asleep at the breast and then put her down about 15 minutes later. I only swaddle her at night and we also have white noise in the room. Now she sleeps about 7 hours straight every night, but she only takes about 40 minute naps throughout the day.
Good Luck!
around that age mine was doing that too. This is when I started using the SwaddleMe blanket again and we jumped into a long 4 hour period. It wasn't until 6 weeks that I got 5 hour stretches and then 8 weeks it jumped to 6-7 and now at 10 we have lovely long 8-9.
LO is 8 weeks and we ge one strech of 4-4.5 sometimes 5 hrs then its back to 3 hrs for the next night time feeding, during the day he'll do about 1 he naps at a time.... my pedi says its a sign hes transitioning.. fingers crossed!!!
