Local AP-friendly pediatrictian?

Can anyone recommend a local AP friendly pediatrician? Specifically the sleeping portion of AP? I like my pedi, but am sick of her telling me to let Eliot CIO, and now I shouldn't nurse him at night according to her, and I continually lie about our sleeping arrangements to avoid a lecture. I live in the S Mpls area, and would be willing to travel a bit.

Maybe I just need to get over it and ignore that portion of our talks, but it always upsets me, and makes it hard for me to always trust the rest of what she says.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Re: Local AP-friendly pediatrictian?

  • I don't know about AP-friendly (because I don't discuss that stuff w/ my pedi), but if you are willing to go to Fridley, Dr. Sitrin is who we see:  https://fctmc.com/

As far as sleep goes, he asks me "about what time does DD go to bed?"  and "how long does she sleep for at a time?"
That is it...never has mentioned CIO or any other method and that's a good thing, because it is his job to give medical advice, not parenting advice...unless I were to ask for it.

We have also seen Dr. Funk (I just noticed her name is now Dr. Simons), Dr. Hollerud, and Dr. Sakkal at that clinic and they are all very nice.

I like Dr. Sitrin and DH likes Dr. Hollerud best...no reason in particular.

Good luck w/ the pedi search!

Thanks, I agree. I'm never the one to bring it up, and I tell her that he gets up 2-3 times/night when she asks. And then she starts telling me to let him CIO and not to nurse him at night, even though I did not complain about it, and that I need to empower him to sleep on his own. Sheesh. It makes you feel like you're doing something wrong, even though it's my decision and I'm the one up with him at 3 am so why does she care? I would be fine if I could find a pedi who didn't bring it up at all....and that wasn't all the way over in Fridley ;o) Thanks though!

  • I had the exact same experience with my son's prior pedi... took me way too long to finally find someone new (until about 14 months), really out of laziness.  But I was so sick of dreading those appointments, and getting lectures about our sleep situation, when I didn't have a problem with it.  So yeah, I had started lying, like you, and told her my son woke up just a few times each night when in actuality we coslept and he pretty much nursed all night long.

It's just crap, and you shouldn't have to put up with it.

Don't just get over it, it's important to be able to talk to your doctor, to not have to censor yourself.

Anyway, found someone I love.  Dr. Arrett.  Partners in Pediatrics.  Brooklyn Park office.

I actually blogged about this exact subject a month ago!  :)

  • I see Dr Richardt at Central Peds on the corner of Larpenteur/Snelling in St Paul.  He knows we cosleep and never says anything against it.  I also nursed until 2.5 and he never said anything about that, either.  Non judgemental.
