Like my Dr. but hate the office staff

Argghh. I am so frustrated.

I've always gone to a GYN, but he doesn't do OB, so when I got pregnant, he referred me to someone else. I love my Gyn, so I was nervous about the OB, but thankfully, I really like him. His office staff, not so much.

I had an NT scan 3 weeks ago. I didn't receive a call about the b/w results, so I called a week after the scan. The woman who answered the phone said, "I don't have that information where I'm sitting. If the results came in, they are on his desk, and he'll call you." Oooo kay.

So fast forward to today. 3 weeks since my NT scan. Still no phone call. I call the office again. I ask the woman. She said, "When they come in, you'll get a phone call." She didn't look it up or anything. I said, "Really? Even though it's been 3 weeks?" She said, "Yeah, it doesn't matter. When they come in, you'll get a call. That's it." And then hangs up! Doesn't say "goodbye" or anything!

I am so annoyed. This is my first pregnancy, so of course, I am a little crazy, but I consider myself pretty laidback about everything.

I don't know whether I should consider switching doctors. I don't even feel comfortable calling the office to ask the doctor a question, bc of the office staff. Thoughts?

Re: Like my Dr. but hate the office staff

  • I would take my happy ass up to the dr. office and have it out with the staff lol! ok, SO you prolly cant really do that lol But, i would go up to the office instead of calling and talk to them in person. Tell them your concerns, that you know it shouldnt take that long for them to get results and you really would like to speak with your dr. and tell him about how the staff has been treating you!

  • That is really rude.  When is your next appt? I would bring it up then to the Dr and say that you called twice and the receptionist wasn't very helpful and down right rude.  See how he responds.  If he just shrugs it off, I would consider switching.  It's not so bad when you're barely going for visits and don't have to deal with them, but you should feel comfortable calling for a question and anything else.  And towards the end you'll be going in for weekly appts.

  • I would call and ask for the office manager. That is really inappropriate and unprofessional behavior. I don't see any reason it would take 3 weeks to get your results back! At my doc's office it took about one week. At the clinic where I work we have to send our labs out so *sometimes* it takes closer to two weeks because our lab is closed on the weekends.

You should have been told a time line at your NT scan or by this woman when you called. The least she could have done was look into it or alert someone else who could if she wasn't able to. I would try and go above her head and just explain that it seems like a long time for results to come back and you want to make sure there aren't any problems- and I'd mention her hanging up on you. Not cool!

  • Thank you ladies. I spoke to DH and my mom, and they are also both upset.DH wants to call the office staff and ask for my results. He is also going to speak to my doctor at our appt jan 5th (I'm a bit of a pushover, so I'd probably chicken out). Chels, I like your idea about seeing how the doctor reacts. If he shrugs it off, I'm going to switch doctors. It's really an issue that I feel so uncomfortable calling him.
