Thyroid blood draws at 2, 4, 6 weeks??

I haven't researched... I was told it's a normal test for same sex twins??? Something about checking for mental disabilities. Cooper with his cleft has a higher likely hood because disabilities are sometimes linked to clefts, but I'm being told it's a twin thing that's why they do it. Something about sharing blood supply in the womb would mask it but now that they're out... But wouldn't di-di twins NOT share the same blood supply? They said if they do detect anything certain hormone shots can 'catch him up' (mentally speaking) But isn't it the case if there was a major disability they notice it right away... Downs. Etc. ? Anyone know what I'm talking about???

  • Really? Is it related to the fact that they were premmies?

My boys certainly did not have this done.

  • Possibly but now I'm thinking it has more to do with the cleft cause I'm not seeing any MoMs who have heard of it.

  • I have Hashimoto's disease and have to take thyroid meds to regulate my thyroid.  I had my TSH checked every month or so while pg.  Once my b/g twins were born, they had their TSH checked once.  It was fine.  If a baby's TSH is too high (indicating a hypofunctioning thyroid) then it can impair their brain development.
