re-freezing breast milk?

I took some breast milk out of the freezer last night because I was going to leave DS with DH for a few hours today.. well plans have changed and I am bringing DS with me now.  Is it ok to put that milk back in the freezer? I would hate to have to dump it.. I worked pretty hard to make it!!

Re: re-freezing breast milk?

  • No, you can't refreeze it.

Give him a bottle with the defrosted milk today and pump instead...and then freeze what you pump today.  :)

  • I haven't checked kellymom but my first instinct is that you can't refreeze. How defrosted is it? You may bc it hasn't been warmed, but That seems iffy to me. Can you use it for cereal or a bottle later today?

  • From what I have read, you can't re-freeze breast milk.  Could you use the bottle today and pump in it's place?  That way you'll be replacing what you are using.  That is what I have done in the past.

    HTH!
