I'm having a bit of a rough time since having my second on Saturday.. recovery is way worse this time! Is this normal for 2nd time, or is it average...??? [Poll]
My second was far easier than my first, but I had a c the first time and a VBAC the second. My second was not an easy delivery, but was easier than the first was since it wasn't surgical and the recovery was far easier (2nd degree tear was far easier to recover from than major surgery).
According to my mom, having a second within two years is a LOT harder than if you waited another year. Something about your body needing that extra time to recover. She was speaking from experience so I'm sure its different for everyone but I figured I would share what she said. I'm still TTC #2 so no personal experience yet.
My third delivery and recovery were the easiest over all. She was a preemieh and only 4lbs 10 oz however. My first was 6lbs 10 oz, and my second was 7 lbs 3 oz and by far my worst recovery.
Total l&d time for ALL three babies is just under 10 hours!
My pregnancy, labor and delivery were more difficult with my 2nd. I couldn't believe how much more painful and difficult everything was. I hope you feel better soon. DD is 2 wks old today and I'm starting to feel more like myself but the first week was ROUGH!
My first was by far easier. I had a 2nd degree tear and recovered after a few weeks. The second time around I labored for over 40 hours and ended up with a c/s. It is three months later and I still hurt from it.
With my first, my epi wore off and I felt EVERYTHING. Plus DS was 7 weeks early so I was FTFO the entire time. I saw him, kissed him and they whisked him away to the NICU : ( where he spent two weeks. It was soooooooo hard leaving him there. Then I was readmitted the day after release for spinal migraines from the epi (the one that didn't work!)
With DS2, the epi worked in all but one spot and OMG did that spot HURT like a mofo. Totally different experience being able to have your baby room w/ you though so I'd say #2 was way easier.
Our miracle IVF baby - D 6/09 & J - Surprise! born 9/10!!!
First delivery and recovery was better and faster for me. I had quick labors, no meds, but DS2 was a POUND BIGGER than DS1 so I almost freaked when I was pushing him out, I thought I couldn't do it! But 10 minutes later he was out Also I learned that the cramps you get in the following days (your fabulous uterus contracting back to size) only get WORSE the more kids your have (this last time I actually took the Vicaden it hurt so bad). My two DD's were small so their deliveries were easy, but as I said, recovery was horrible.... after the first week I think they all "evened out" though as in terms of me getting up and about, I hope you feel better soon!
Both my L&D's were easier but I only pushed for 7 minutes with #1 and 35 min with #2 (mostly because #2 was a pound bigger). So delivery was easier with #1. #1 descended so fast that I tore and bruised more. My recovery was much easier with #2. I had a hard time walking for 2 days after delivery and couldn't sit on hard surfaces for week with #1. I felt really good with #2 by 12 hours later.
My second delivery was much easier!! But i feel like I recovered/healed faster after my first (probably because I didnt get time to stay in bed this time around - when i brought home DS#2, DS#1 was 11 months so there was no relaxing for me)
first baby was vaginal birth after 40 hours of labor, and 3 hours of pushing but was still MUCH easier delivery/recovery than having DD#2 unexpectedly at 32 weeks via emergency c-section.
Mom to 2 beautiful girls, 3 yrs and 22 months old. My 2nd was born at 32 weeks due to Rhogam failure/severe complications from Rh disease and is our miracle. She has bilateral auditory neuropathy and a cochlear implant, activated 4/5/2012 at 19 months.
Re: Clicky poll - which delivery/recovery was easier?

I had 2u2, and my second delivery and recovery were miles easier than the first.
ETA: LOL, I didn't realize I was on the 2u2 board - I followed the link from 12-24. I guess most people here have 2u2.
