Babies: 0 - 3 Months

XP: sore nipples still? 12 days in...

I still get a LOT of pain- shooting & stinging with latch on. LO is seriously latched totally fine- tongue is under, lips are flared out... It's fine once he gets going, but those first few seconds are awful.

My poor nips! They also hurt in the shower, when I get cold and they get hard... I think I have a bit of an oversupply- not sure if that would matter. LO really gulps, pulls back, clamps down when feeding... and I pumped today for the first time and got 4.5oz- that's a LOT for a first try, yes?

I had these probs last time as well, but WTF? Do I just have really sensitive nips or what?

I know I should probably call an LC or LLL, but haven't yet.

  • Honestly- that is all rather normal. even with a second. it takes a little bit, even now at 12 weeks I still cringe sometimes when DS initally starts.

  • Mine still get sore sometimes. Are you using Lansinoh cream ? I use it every time and it really helps. Also put it on your nipples before you get in the shower. It will help with the pain.

  • Mine hurt for the first month like that... and I think oversupply in the beginning is normal until your supply regulates as your LO feeds on demand.

Use the lanolin and get some of those nipple pads that you stick in the fridge and use them after every feeding until the next one. It'll get better.

also if you use the nipple creams make sure you wear nursing pads unless you want to ruin all your shirts and bras. That stuff stains terribly and I still can't get it out from one of my shirts. :(

  • Yeah, I'm doing everything they say to do! BM on the nips, then airdry... using nipple butter everytime, and on my nursing pads so they don't stick...

Guess I was just hoping it wouldn't hurt so much this time! lol! Though last time I had blood blisters and bleeding, so I guess it is a little better. UGH!

  • Even after my nips healed up after 10 days or so, that first few toe-curling seconds after latching didn't go away completely, and having an oversupply makes it worse (fast letdown can trigger that feeling). I think it took a month before I didn't wince as she got going.

  • DD is 11 weeks and I still have to hold my breath those first few seconds. I no longer have to cover my bewbies when I get in the shower though, but I do cringe when something makes my nipples hard....youch!!
