Toys in Crib

Do you think it would be safe to leave a couple of soft toys (like fabric blocks) in her crib at 7 months old? I've noticed that when Betty Jane wakes up from naps she is fine to play with a little toy in her crib for a while. The only problem is that when I go into her room to give her a toy she doesn't want me to leave. Her teeth are also coming in so I don't want to leave anything in her crib that she could eventually chew off like buttons or plastic eyes on stuffed animals. That's why I thought fabric blocks or plastic rings might be good. What do you think?

  • I think she'd be fine.  I left Aaron's seahorse in his crib at that time.

I also had that aquarium hooked up to the slats and he'd play with that.  Also maybe a soft mirror?

  • Does she have a Sophie?  Matt loves it while teething.

  • I think it's fine.. she's old enough to push it away if she doesn't want it and grab it when she does want it.

C's always had his seahorse and a small Baby Snoopy in his crib.. ever since birth.  Now he also has Napoleon, his purple sock monkey.  (A gift from his crazy uncle, who thought the sock monkey should have a "regal" name.)

Of course, I'm also the mom who has allowed her kid to have a blanket since Day One.. and now he won't sleep without a big, thick snuggly blankey.

  • Robby is quite a bit older but, even at 7 months, he had snugglies in the crib with him. Nowadays, it's like finding Waldo (Robby) in his crib. He has so many "things". It's a routine now....when he wakes up, he plays with them and then throws them all over board when he's ready to get up. For us, it has been very self-soothing for our guy.

  • Sarah has had several soft toys in her crib for a long time. I don't put anything with detachable eyes or something, but there are various stuffed animals, her seahorse, an elephant that makes music, a soft teething key etc. She often likes to play in his crib for 30-45 minutes after she wakes up before she is ready to get up.

  • I agree with the pp - a little something is OK.
  • She should be fine to have a couple of things in the crib with her. A soft mirror was a hit for Ada at that age.

  • Thanks everyone! I put a couple of soft toys in her crib last night and she was fine with them. Yay!
