DD is still covered in them. She's just had most of her second dose this morning but her skin looks terrible. The hives are huge and all over including her diaper area now. She was up most of the night scratching and crying. I'm going to wash the moby today and have it ready for tonight. The only time she was comfortable was sleeping on my chest when I was in the recliner but that was maybe an hour of sleep. I took her back to bed and spent the rest of the night trying to help her. I'm exhausted. I'm sure she's tired too.
Re: Anyone know how long it takes for steroids to work?
I havent seen any of your other posts, but I am a pharmacist so I wanted to answer... I would expect you to notice improvement by the end of the day, but not a complete turn around. Make sure you give her food with every dose, and keep in mind that steroids can cause increased energy/excitedness/insomnia, etc. so that could affect her sleeping habits. It also can ramp up your appetitite as well.
Good luck! I Hope she is feeling better soon!
Trying for #2 since July 2010

BFP 1/8/11, chemical pregnancy.

Forced break, including two Hysteroscopies in October to remove retained tissue.
BFP 12/29/11! Betas @ 10 dpo = 85, 14 dpo= 498, 22 dpo = 7242
Heard HB 1/24/12. 144 bpm!
Luca Rose born 9/9/12! More than worth the wait!
i've taken them for poison ivy (on my face) 2x. I got some relief from the burning/itching right away - within 8 hours for sure. But it took a few days for the skin to completely clear of hives/redness. If she's already scratched the skin, and the hives were really bad, that skin just needs a little time to heal.
Major downside... steroids caused me extreme moodiness, irritability, sleeplessness, appetite surges etc. In fact, from those 2 experiences, I've decided that I will only take them again in life-threatening situations, the side effects make me feel so poorly. I can imagine if I were a little person who had no clue what was going on, and I were unable to communicate my feelings, I'd be a total basket case
I hope they do the trick for her, and that the side effects are minimal. If they seem to start working really well, you could talk to the doctor about tapering the dosage faster. But do check first.
Hmm. I'm not a steroid expert but DS has had them multiple times. Prednisolone is the one we always go to now for his asthma attacks. It is also a bronchodialator and I thought that was the main use for it. Maybe it isnt the correct steriod for the hives if they are still there. For DS it is instant and he is all cracked out but happy and breathing within minutes. He never sleeps well when he's on it but it really is a saving grace for him. I always leave the last dose in the container for emergency asthma attacks and I've used it twice. It really helped so I could get hin to the dr. without calling 911.
