My son came home with the cutest homemade sleigh with all types of ornaments he made these last couple of months. I know they also had a polar express day and there was a lot of santa talk as well as learning about the celebrations of other cultures. I am surprised and pleased that the kids in my city still get to do fun things like this.
I teach in a suburban setting just outside where my son attends school and celebrating any specific holiday is frowned upon. No more Christmas parties for the kids and we are pretty much told to keep things status quo. Just curious what is going on in your districts.
Re: Have your kids done a lot of Christmas crafts in school?
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
DD goes to a private preschool and they're fairly "Christmasy" (they had a holiday party with Santa, etc.) but most of their actual crafts have been more "winter" themed. . . snowflakes, snowmen, moose with snow on their antlers, penguins, bells, etc.
She's at "snowball daycamp" this week and their crafts thus far have been ice skates and a snowman.
Kaitlyn and Nathan's school do a Christmas party, they even got a gift (a book) and a Christmas card from their teachers. They do learn about the other holidays also. Allison's preschool is in the same school district, (many kids from many different areas are bussed to her school, there are 3 preschools and it is the 2nd largest school district in the state) they aren't allowed to do anything related to Christmas. They had a "gingerbread party" at her school at night for the families.
