I feel like I'm living with Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

I know this is just a toddler phase thing, but seriously...Henry is all smiles and laughs one day and a miserable, whiny, crying mess the next. I really wish I could put my finger on what makes the difference so we could have Happy Smiley Henry every day!

Anyone else going through this phase? It is wearing me out!

  • Me!!  And I chalk it up to teething, separation anxiety, frustration not being able to communicate...I guess in general toddlerdom.  It is frustrating because those trying days can be so hard.

  • Garrison is the same way.  Not for a whole day at a time, but she'll be playing and happy and then snap! she's "no, no, no" wants to be picked up, then wants to be put down, wants to be picked up, wants cheese, throws cheese on floor, "no, no, no".

For her, I really do think her incisors have been threatening to come in for a month and some days she is pretty miserable with the pain at times. She is also really forming opinions but can't always express what she wants, which can be really frustrating (for both of us ; ) Luckily, the spurts last 20-30 minutes and then we can usually get into something she enjoys and she forgets she was playing the role of CrabCake Jones.

  • If you figure it out, let me know.

Caroline swings whichever way the wind blows some days.  She's a mood swing concealed in a toddler's body...and yes, it is exhausting.

When she's happy, she's the happiest baby ever...but Lord help me, when she's cranky...wow...she is a hot, hot mess.

  • Well, I hate you all are suffering, too, but glad to know I'm not alone! Stick out tongue

The one thing that works for me is to pack Henry up and take him out of the house, and then he's totally fine. Until we walk back in the door.

  • Well I guess there we have it! Toddlerdom
  • Right there with you all.

Yes same here...we are always out and bout which is why I hate hate hate winter...I hate not being able to go for walks or to the park. I think that makes it worse.

  • Yep.... definitely a toddler thing! DD is the same way.

  • Oh yes, we are on the Toddler Train Wreck, too! Oh heavens, it is not fun. It is hard because he has so few words and he gets frustrated SO easily. I am ready for him to start expressing himself better. The only word that he really has is the sign for "more". He was crying in his car seat today like I have NEVER seen him cry and he kept signing "more". Ummmm, more what?

Here to hoping that Santa brings either more communication skills to our toddlers or patience for us mamas!

  • I agree that cabin fever plays a role.  We have a couple of different areas of the house where we can go and a change of scenery helps but-- being able to just go for a walk would help a lot more.

  • It's a minute by minute thing here.  It is exhausting.  A whole day of pleasentness would be amazing.
