Let me preface by saying I don't...but I did today. DS started getting a little congested over the weekend. We were at thedr on saturday and she wasn't concerned. This morning he woke with one of those coughs that sounded like he just needed to be upright for a bit to clear things out. To this point he wasn't coughing a ton or anything. Fast forward to about 4:30pm and I get a call from DCP telling me 'he's coughing so hard he's constantly throwing up'. So I go get him ASAP and he has definitely thrown up at least once which has made him upset so he's crying and coughing now. I happen to have a cough drop in my pocket so I gave it to him. He's just about 4. I know it's bad for his teeth and it's a huge choking hazard, but it calmed him down. How bad was it for me to do that?
Once we got home I gave him some mucinex, he hasn't coughed since, nor thrown up, and has been running around like his crazy self. Makes me wish I didn't have a dr appt set for him tomorrow at 9am, but I guess better safe than sorry with xmas around the corner.
so, cough drops? or no...
Re: do you give your kids cough drops?
yah, if I was in a different situation and actually had a sucker or a lollipop on me I'd have given him that for sure over the cough drop. There are lots of other things I would've done if I were at home, but since I was in my car Iwas at a loss.
