? for runners with a baby jogger stroller

My baby jogger summit xc just came in yesterday. I love it. I loved it in the store and I loved it even more yesterday. HOWEVER, when I was reading the manual that it came with (which is just basic set up instructions) it said that the stroller should not exceed 3 MPH. WTF? When I'm jogging I'm still at a clip of a 10 minute mile/6 MPH (or at least I was pre-pg).

This was followed up by instructions to not use with rollerblades/roller skates.

If you have a Baby Jogger, do you run with it?

I love that we'll be able to use this stroller for off-road walks and at the beach. I just really thought that I'd be able to *run* with it as well. My H said not to mind the speed limit and that it would be fine. But I don't really want to discover that it won't when I have my kids strapped into the seats, KWIM?

Re: ? for runners with a baby jogger stroller

  • I've always heard that despite the name, Baby Joggers aren't for running. I think it's a market ploy and they just call themselves that to attract people who want to feel athletic. If you really want to run, a BOB will be much better. We love ours.

I was going to say the thing. When I was researching, the BOB was the only one who didn't have a limit.  It even has a little safety strap you hook on your wrist in case you get going so fast that the stroller gets away from you. Big Smile

  • "The BOB Ironman was made for runners by runners,"  Baby Bargains.  It is pricey but we got the Ironman Dualie (actually my BFF shocked me and got it for us.)

our Baby Jogger was twice the price of the Ironman and even more expensive than the Rev. It's definitely not price I'm worried about.

All of the websites I read voted for the Summit XC over the Rev, and I liked it better in person. I'm just a little shocked that this mileage limit is even a factor. It was literally the first I've heard of it. And neither stroller company's website advertises a speed limit for the handling of either stroller.

  • Wait I see the summit XC double priced at 475-650, the BOB Ironman is 480...how is that "double the price."  Just sayin'.

Tara, my point was that price isn't the issue. Clearly you can see that from your quick search on the XC.

I was looking at Ironman's earlier and the website I was on was charging $349, which is why I assumed the XC was twice the price. Sorry if that gave you some sort of inferiority complex. Drop the attitude though, seriously. I wasn't trying to pick a fight, I'm just trying to keep from owning a $650 running stroller that you can't use for running.

  • I have the City Classic and run with it. If I had it to do over again or if I start running longer distances I'll get the BOB, but for now the classic works fine. Didn't know there was an official speed limit.

  • We have 2 Baby Joggers - a triple and a single.  Both were purchased 2nd hand.

The triple was purchased from a runner in our town with 3 kids who told us that she purchased the stroller directly from the company b/c she couldn't buy it anywhere.  It's pretty old but in fantastic shape - MH, who is a REAL runner, has pushed the girls in it not only for general runs but for races.  We've done several 5Ks with the girls in that stroller.  And he is running 8 minute miles for those races.

We've both used the single for general runs.  I run 9-10 minute miles and I've never felt that the stroller wouldn't hold up.  Both the triple and the single have the leashes that you hold onto so the stoller can't get away from you too.

This is the first I've heard that Baby Joggers aren't for real running. Are they making different models/versions now? b/c the ones we have are older.

  • I have the ironman and I just have to say - I LOVE this stroller.  I run 10+ miles with it regularly, i do speedwork with it and i roller blade with it.  I race with it, I transport it and my kids love it so much that they crawl in it ALL the TIME.I will take a moment to AW this below...haha.

Just chiming it because this stroller has made running so enjoyable for all of us.  Running is my biggest passion and being able to do it with my babies has been a very special thing.  Priceless...get a BOB!!!!

thanks for this! I think I'm going to call BJ tomorrow and get the scoop directly from them. It seems ridiculous because our stroller was pitted against the BOB Rev as a comparable running stroller in every article I read before buying.

I seriously can't wait to run with our babies. This picture is so sweet. I hope they enjoy it, because I would love to take them with me and have them grow up with exercise and outdoor activities being a regular part of their lives!
