DD has a confirmed milk protein allergy and I am extra careful to make sure that I read all labels etc. It took us forever to determine that she had the allergy b/c she does not always present normally when she has an allergy until she has had the food in question for months which makes it hard to pin down what the problem is.
She has had excema like patches in her diaper area and little bumps around her anus for 3 months. I have tried everything to get rid of it, including many prescription creams and 5+ doctor visits.
The other day I noticed a slight pinkness (very slight) to her face when she was eating her DAILY morning Banana.
I thought I would cut it out of her diet and see what happens. It has been 3 days and her excema on her bottom is almost completely gone. Now I'm scared that she has a Banana allergy. She is highly allergic to milk protein and presented almost exactly. My Pedi said that 99% of her allergy is presenting internally with the dairy.
Does anyone have a LO with a Banana allergy? Is it hard to work around? Is it possible it's just a sensitivity? I am going to call the Pedi in the am with my findings just wanted to know what everyone here has to say.
Thanks for any info.
Re: Allergic to Bananas?
Thanks for your response. I'm just hoping it's easier to keep track of than the dairy allergy. Ugh dairy is in EVERYTHING it seems. Your DD is beautiful BTW and you have the cutest baby bump.
I don't know if DD is allergic to bananas or not b/c she hasn't had them yet. I am, however, allergic to them. I am actually allergic to latex, and bananas are somehow related and my latex allergy extends to bananas. DD will get them when she is 2, but for now we avoid them.
Honestly, they are really easy to avoid. The hardest things are fruit salad at potlucks or when you are at other people's houses and baked items like banana bread or muffins. We don't keep them in the house (much to DH's dislike) so the temptation is never there.
Ryan is allergic to bananas. He gags, which our pedi thinks is a reaction happening in the back of his throat. We just thought he didn't like them. Until the last time he had bananas he had welts all over his head and face and was screaming hysterically.
