What toy is your LO obsessed with and how is it manifested?

Simon is so obsessed with his remote control helicopter I'm starting to wonder if I need to hide it away for a while. It's the first thing he asks for in the morning when he wakes up and it's the thing he looks for every time we walk into the house. It's just a little helicopter I bought at Walmart for $30 and we've already had to replace it twice, he keeps flying it into walls all the time and destroying it. If we don't give it to him then he throws a fit (well, his fits only last a few seconds but still, he is LOUD). I'm starting to wonder if any other babies develop toy obsessions that are this bad, and if/when this would be considered an unhealthy preoccupation?

M really likes pens and crayons. It is a bad idea to let her see one because she will pester you to give it to her and resists being redirected. I wouldn't say I consider it a preoccupation though.

My youngest son, Alex, walked around with a plastic figurine of a wolf. It was maybe 2 or 3 inches and it fit perfectly in his hands. He carried that thing with him and played with it for months. He adored that thing!

Currently it's his Mickey Mouse bath toy--it's a small figurine and he carries it around in his hands like Noelle's Alex. Otherwise he likes to carry his stuffed Sesame Street toys around. Grover, Cookie Monster, Elmo ... though Grover is his current favorite.

Noah loves his black & decker Kids tools. He loves them.

Finn is obsessed with his cheap little stacking cups. He is so good at stacking them and putting them in eachother. It is his absolute favorite. It was Noah's fave at that age too. So much for expensive gifts.

Hmmm, maybe Ellie's too young for obsessions yet. She plays fairly equally with the toys we have out right now. She does definitely have two favorite blankies, but she's not distraught if we use something else.

Ok well I'm getting the message that while everyone's LO has a favorite toy, nobody obsesses over it like S does with his helicopter. I've tried hiding it away but that's doesn't help, he just whines until I give it to him. I just don't know what to do!

If it makes you feel better, A is obsessed with opening and closing doors. At my office, the knobs are levers and he can easily open them and those knob covers only go over round knobs. It's crazy. He won't stop. Over and over.

I pray he outgrows his door obsession. Though I hear a good doorman in NYC can make something like $90K per year. Wink

Hahaha, that's probably more than a helicopter pilot makes!
