Parenting after 35

From bad to worse - ugh!

After going through the miscarriage last week, I had to get follow up betas done, and my numbers were very slowly going UP.  Not what my Dr. wanted to see.  I ended up back in the ER all day yesterday as she was very concerned about an ectopic pregnancy.  Had to go through the ultrasound, sonogram, etc. again.  Couldn't help but hope that someone made a mistake and they would tell me, oh, sorry, you are pregnant still and everything is fine. Of course that didn't happen and instead laparoscopy or D&C were discussed.  Since they couldn't visualize a large mass that looked like it was in danger of rupturing and I could have had the D&C and ended up getting methotrexate anyway, I ended up opting for methotrexate instead.  The downsides to that are that I had to stop BF'ing immediately, which was not fun this morning (we were down to only one session per day, just in the morning) and we have to wait 3 months before TTC again.  They assured me that methotrexate won't impact future fertility but I am worreid.  Has anyone TTC after having methotrexate?  I hate that I sound so whiny here but this just doesn't feel fair!  :(

  • No experience taking methotrexate, but I just wanted to say that I am sorry you are going for this and esp. that you got your hopes up again. That would be crushing and I am sure I would have allowed myself to hope the same thing. You don't sound whiny at all. I hope the meds work and you can get the physical part behind you soon and at least have that for closure and can begin to heal so you can TTC in a few months. I would think meds would be easier on you as far as TTC goes than a D&C. I think that D&Cs are also usually pretty safe, but that on occasion (but very rarely) it can impact your fertility by causing scarring.

  • Oh I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! I had a D&C with my first pregnancy and it took me 9 months to get pg, though I was told i could try right away pretty much. I do know of someone who allegedly went the methotrexate route and allegedly ended up conceiving 2 months after taking it! If that's a true story, I don't know but the baby is just fine.

Again, I'm really really sorry for your loss.

  • Ugh I'm so sorry you are going through this, it's like adding insult to injury!   But thankfully you were down to only 1 session a day so hopefully Teagan will handle weaning ok.  *Hugs*

  • Lurker here...

First, let me say that I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.

I'd like to give you some hope, though.  I had an ectopic pregnancy a few years ago and ended up having to have methotrexate.  That little man in my siggy is my son.  So, yes, you can still get pregnant after methotrexate.

You're in my T&P.  It really sucks going through what you're going through.
