Santa Pictures...

Am I the only one who thinks it's mean to make your terrified screaming child sit on a strange old man's lap?

Re: Santa Pictures...

  • I hope so! They only sit there for the amount of time it takes to get a picture. And the parents are right there so it's not like a "strange man" is going to do anything to them. It's just a fun tradition.

  • i'm sure others think it's mean - but the rest of us think it's funny... it takes about 10 seconds...

my kids cry a lot more for things like a paci falling out.

  • I think it makes for priceless pictures, but I don't think I could do it if both of mine (or even just one) were screaming prior to getting up to him. If they started to cry right after being placed on his lap, I would hope they could take the picture quickly and it would be done!

  • It doesn't even cross my mind to do it every year.  I think the old man probably creeps ME out more than the kids!  Plus, the prices are ridiculous.

I had the Portable North Pole send our boys each a message.  Our 4 y/o thought it was really cool, and it didn't scare him ; )

  • nope, i dont think its mean at all.

maybe for your kids - 2 months is pretty young - but 2 years? nah.  my kids had a great time waiting (and causing havok) in line for an hour.  so 1 hr of fun for 10 seconds of crying?   seems fair to me!  i have 3 pics, my DD is only crying in one...she was happy at first, she only cried because her brother cried.

I am not sensative to crying though. I hear it all day long.  fight/fight/fight, cry/cry/cry...its what they do.  look forward to it Stick out tongue

Oh, I think she knows... she has more than just those two!! ; )

It's one thing to hear them crying because they're hungry or hurt or frustrated with their sibling.  Crying because they're afraid is a very different emotion for me!  I'm totally not against Santa pictures, and I don't think it's mean to take your kids for them... just not my thing.

  • Yeah, it's not my thing either. Since I know (esp last year, somewhat this year, maybe not next year) that they'll hate it, I'm not going to put them through it just for my own amusement. I don't think it's a big deal either way, but yeah, if I KNOW they'll hate it then I personally would feel a little mean doing it.

I never got my pic taken with Santa when I was growing up though so it's not a tradition I'm attached to. If they're older and ask to go see Santa, I have no problem with it.
