How much would you pay a teenage neighbor to watch a 18 month old for 6 hours? We usually have family or friends watch him and they just watch him for free.
The going rate in our town is $10/hour but that is for a college student. Can you believe that?! I wish I would have made that kind of money when I used to babysit!
From what I hear from my students, it seems like $6-12 is normal, with most of them getting around $7-8. We're lucky that both sets of grandparents and an aunt and uncle live in town.

Re: How much do you pay a babysitter for an evening out?
What I always read was you should pay them what they are "worth" in the free market.
so, if they are 16 and can drive (could get a job) you'd pay them approx min wage. (I'm not even sure what that is now? $8/hr?)
If they are younger, less. If they are older, more.
I think our sitter (senior in HS) charges $8 if I remember right. We pay her a little more b/c we love her.
We pay our college sitters $10/hr. We haven't hired anyone younger than a senior in HS.
$10 an hour? Seriously? Yikes. I remember making, on a good night, like $10 total.
I can't imagine going out for 6 hours (like, 6pm to midnight) and paying someone $60 to babysit. Especially since she goes to bed by 7:30!!
I guess I'm glad we have family and friends around!! :-)
We went to a wedding this summer and were gone for 12 hours. Yeah. Broke.
