Lay down in bed- think to myself "maybe this will be the night". Fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that she STTN. Or maybe even just gets up once. Yeah, that would be good too.
So exhausted, out like a light before I can even finish the thought in my head.
That first whine. You bargain with LO in your head. Please, just go back to sleep... mommmy is so tired. LO stops whining just long enough for you to momentarily drift off...
And then jarred awake to the crying. Shouldn't have even tried to go back to sleep.
Zombie walk to their room. Pick them up and zombie walk back to the bedroom. Jiggle the boobs to figure out which one is fuller. Move the pillow to the side of the bed to make sure LO doesn't roll off. Lay them down. What, tonight you don't want to nurse lying down? Crying, more crying. Pick LO up, prop pillow up, manage to get LO latched on in the most uncomfortable position possible. Can't reach the blanket to cover your foot. It's cold. Minutes seem like hours as they eat. So tired...
Butterfly sucking as they drift off to sleep. Ah...finally... A honed skill to unlatch them without waking them. Success. Tiptoe, gently, to their room. Halfheartedly burping, trying not to wake them up. Praying you don't trip over anything to wake them.
That last snuggle and a contented sigh while laying them down somehow makes the last 30 minutes all worth it. Finally back in the warm bed. Drifting off, thinking maybe that will be the last time tonight.
Then, that first whine... Rinse, repeat...
Re: Sound familiar? (long)
It does. Last night was no good for us.
I had to laugh at the party about thinking to yourself maybe tonight is THE night...so true.
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!

I remember those nights. I love your version of it.
I still try to telepathically tell Jeanne to quiet down when she stirs at night. But she doesn't fully wake anymore. Just an occasional "ugh" or "eeeeea". Then back to sleep.
How did you get in my head??? What other thoughts of mine are you reading?
