Is this normal (newborn sleeping behavior)?

Lauren is still up every 2-4 hours at night to eat.  She's almost 9 weeks.  My DH wants me to take her to the pedi, but I think he's going to laugh at me.

BTW, Lauren takes 4-5 oz per feeding in her bottle and has pretty much since birth.

  • I think that it's absolutely normal.

Ella was up that frequently to eat for several months. I agree that your pedi will probably laugh at you, or tell you to CIO. :)

  • Very normal. Kaylee did it until she was 6 months old or longer!
  • Sounds normal to me.  I think you should tell him to be grateful when she makes it 4 hours at this age!

    Ditto!

  • Seems normal to me!
  • Totally normal....I dont think we went to one night waking until about 4 months and then by 5 months he wasnt waking at all and sleeping 12 hours and we havent really turned back since then!
  • My 8 month old still does this (though she isn't hungry and doesn't eat with each waking). I talk to her pedi about it at every visit and she always tells me it's normal.
  • We saw a big change in Josie's sleeping between 2 & 3 months.  By the time I went back to work at 3 months, she was at most getting up once.

  • I think you should tell your DH its not only normal but its healthy.  Babies that young are better off in regard to SIDS risk to wake up every few hours, its a normal self protection mechanism.  I think anytime I can make something sound like a medical reason it has more validity :)
  • Oh it makes me tired just thinking about it.  We were spoiled, but, I think from hearing from most moms, that's normal.  I hope she starts sleeping longer soon!
  • Almost five months and still up every 4 at least here!

But we get a good 6-8 stretch every few days.

With J, it was way worse.  He didn't sleep more than 3 straight until he was 13 months old.  Sorry, that's probably not what you wanted to hear, lol.
