Refusing "baby food"?

DD has been refusing anything that even remotely resembles babyfood. I tried to give her mashed potatoes this weekend and she wouldn't even eat that.
She will feed herself finger foods and will even allow me to feed her finger foods, but will not eat anything that resembles pureed or blended food.

Anyone else have a LO who did this? Did they eventually go back to taking baby foods and similar, or was that the end of it for you?
I have a cupboard full of babyfood with no baby to feed it to, lol.

Also, is yotoddler yogurt much thicker than the yobaby? I opened my first yobaby today and couldn't believe how thin and messy it was.

  • That was totally Jake.  He hated purees and when he was about 8 months or so, he was all table foods.  I would send purees to school though and they hated feeding him because it would be so hard.   I would definitely keep trying though, it certainly could be a phase!

I made a lot of "cookies" with the fruit purees and baby cereal.  Then I fed those to Jake for breakfast.  I just used a cookies recipe and substituted the puree for some of the oil/butter and the cereal for the flour.

  • I think it's totally normal for a baby not to like purees. And there's nothing wrong with it, as long as she's still getting fruits and veggies.

Parents who do BLW never even touch purees.

YoToddler isn't any thicker than YoBaby. It's definitely thin and runny, but most whole milk yogurt is.

  • Isabella went through a phase where she didn't want anything "gooey."  I think she didn't like the way it felt in her hands.  She's also gone through phases where she wouldn't eat food she used to like.  She did that with mashed potatoes, stopped eating any kind of white potato for a while, and then recently her mashed potatoes were the only thing she ate for dinner.  She'll probably get over it eventually.

  • That was the end of it for us. And shortly after this she refused to let us feed her anything at all. She had to do it herself!

You can use the baby foods on toast or have her dip crackers or whatever in it or make sandwiches.

  • Kailey never really liked jar food because I made her food for the very short time she ate baby food.  8 months is about when we switched to just finger food or I would put chunks of what we were eating on the spoon with the puree to get her to eat it.  That worked to get rid of a little bit more of what I had made. The rest I added to spagetti sauce and veggie soup.

  • It definitely sounds like the end of purees. Once Paige had table food, and some things with texture, she was over purees. I don't remember how old she was - I think it was somewhere around 9 months.

We went with a lot of soft veggies - canned green beans, cooked carrots, peas - and soft fruits - peaches, pears, mandarin oranges, plus a lot of puffs. She also liked small pieces of chicken and potatoes.

  • At 9 months to the day, Haley did this to us.  All of a sudden, we had to start figuring out what to give her that she could feed herself bc she wouldn't go near a soft or pureed food for anything.  We just started dicing up whatever we were eating at the time and giving it to her.  I'm really hoping that Ashlyn doesn't do this to us anytime in the near future.
