Which video monitor should I get?

We'll be starting the process of moving DS from our downstairs bedroom up to his nursery and of course I'm a wreck about it because he'll be so far away from me. I think a video monitor will be really helpful to ease my mind, but they're expensive so I want to make sure I get the right one. Can you recommend what you're using, if you have one? Thanks!

  • We have this one and love it, it was a shower gift that I wasn't registered for but I am so glad they picked this over what we had picked. It works great for us.

  • Hi,

We have both a video monitor and the angelcare system.  I must tell you that without a doubt if you have to make a choice - get the angelcare.  This thing actually saved our son's life.  We had one of those "Sleep Sheep" stuffed lambs velcroed to the crib and the angelcare went off.  We found our son with his face under the lamb - he had stopped breathing.  The angelcare detected it and saved him.  We moved the lamb and haven't put anything into the crib ever again.  He's 8 months old now.

The angelcare system detects the slightest movement.  We had a fan blowing on the crib at one point and it was detecting the movement of the dust-ruffle on the crib.  You have to figure out the sensitivity but once you do - you're golden.  You can monitor movement, sound, and temperature - I would recommend this product to anyone ever.  This thing really gives you peace of mind.

  • I don't mean to alarm anyone, but last week one of our Chicago news stations (NBC, I think) did a report on how people can pick up the frequency of the video monitors & actually see whatever the video monitor is pointed to (ie: baby's crib).  It was scary....  Potentially, a predator can tune in and see the baby in his or her crib.

I've had friends tell me that their audio baby monitors sometimes pick up their neighbors' monitors & they've heard conversations in their neighbors' homes!

Sorry to bring up a negative point, but I was shocked to see the story about the video monitors!

Me: 42, DH: 43. We are so grateful to have a 2yr old daughter, conceived naturally after 3 miscarriages & no treatments (our Dr. gave us 1 more month to try on our own before advacing to IVF, & we conceived her naturally in January 2010)! Trying since April 2011 without sucess....MD said we were both "fine" & that if it wasn't happening, it was a chromosomal issue. Finally started Follistim 225mcg injections with an Ovidrel trigger November 2012. Bleeding 11 days post Ovidrel on November 25th. Starting the whole lab/Ultrasound/Follistim cycle again on November 27th...
  • I have a video monitor and I love being able to see LO sleeping.  I would however skip the brand I bought.  I have a Mobi and I get tons of static.
  • When looking on Amazon, I saw two monitors called "Angel Care" made by 2 different companies?

Which one is everyone refering too?

  • We use summer infant slim & secure.  I love it.
