Ok so I picked out a crib that I like from Sears Canada...it's 399.99. I was browsing Walmart.com (American site not Canadian, can't find it on the Canadian Site) and saw the same crib for 135 US, with the current exchange rate is about 145 Canadian. Due to some government restrictions, I don't think I can pick the crib up in the US and bring back to Canada ![]()
So what my point was is how the hell can the exact same crib cost less than half price in the US versus Canada?!?!
Damn you Sears!
Re: Riddle me this...
Are you positive about the restrictions? I live right by the Canadian border and last I heard you can bring stuff over up to $1,000 and not have to pay dues on it.
I'd double check before you spend all that extra money. I don't see why they wouldn't let you bring a crib... all they ask about is alchohol, cigarettes, weapons, and some fruit.
Sometimes they are in English, Spanish, French and Creole lol. It does happen though! Maybe call the manufacturer and ask or see if they will open the box to let you check.
Cribs aren't an issue- car seats are. It's a different safety standard. And it's not that you can't use a US carseat, it's that you will be fined for not having you child in a safe restraint device. So long as it's the same crib it should have the same safety standards and not be an issue.
As far as driving over to the States, you need to stay 48 hours before you can have $400 in duty free purchases. You can go over and pick up the crib and drive right back but you'll need to declare it at the border and pay duty on the item.
