Poll: Shopping Cart/High Chair Covers

I'm looking for a shopping cart + high chair cover-in-one for LO (I don't really wanna carry a separate cover for carts and high chairs). I've found the following on Amazon with good reviews, but I can't decide which one! Which one would you get and/or have/used and liked or heard of? TIA!!

(A) Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony Cozy Cart Cover

(B) Boppy Protect Me Shopping Cart Liner

(C) Jeep Shopping Cart and High Chair Cover

Re: Poll: Shopping Cart/High Chair Covers

  • I have a "Floppy" brand one.  Were you looking at functionality here or a pattern?

  • Can I ask what the big deal is with shopping cart covers? I mean, I get that they protect kids from germs (touch the dirty cart, put hands in mouth), but are they really necessary? I don't think I've ever seen anyone use one in Australia - although I did once see them for sale in a baby store - so I thought it would be better to ask this here than on the Aussie parenting boards I read. Smile

I thought exposure to plenty of different germs was good for building up immunity? Or are there more way germs on shopping carts than anywhere else? (Not a sarcastic question - I really don't know!)

Someone gave us one of the double sized ones for twins, but since I've never seen a double cart here (the carts are a lot smaller than they are in the USA to begin with and I've never seen a double seater), I strongly doubt it'll ever even be taken out of the packaging.

Mainly functionality, but avoiding girlie designs since LO is a boy =)

Inamra -I have the one in the row on the top there - blue with the big circles - 3rd or 4th from the right.  Be happy to send it to you for the cost of shipping if you want.

Lisa - I think I used it in the shopping cart once, but I forgot all the other times.  It was extremely useful in going out to eat b/c the restaurant high chairs were too big for him before - now he's better at sitting in them and just finds that it gets in his way, or plays with it more than anything.

Good question. I'm not sure how much germs are on carts and/or high chairs. But I am a bit of a germaphob and although I'd be fine with LO touching things, I don't really like it when he puts his mouth directly on it (and that's what he does with everything these days). And if he starts sucking and chewing on the handles, who knows if shopping cart handles are BPA-free? I don't think they're meant to be in kids' mouths so I'm sure no one pays attention to it. Also, for me personally, I kinda want to protect LO from germs until he's one...then he can start building up his immunity from there but I'd prefer if he didn't get a fever before one year old--but that's just me =) also, the pockets in some of them to hold stuff for me is handy since I don't carry a purse anymore but that's secondary.

Oh really? Are you sure you don't want/need yours anymore? I think I might take you up on that offer =) (Sorry, I missed this post until now because I must've missed it while typing up my other response post since I was bumping from my phone =P).

I thought they were totally unnecessary too, but now that A's bigger and could actually sit in a shopping cart, I really want one. I've tried putting him in one and it just looks painfully uncomfortable. And padding it with blankets and my Ergo and whatever else I have is just messy and sets me up to lose something. Then, of course, there's the germ factor -- but that's secondary to me. I'm on the look for a good, cheap one too.

I'm a kids nurse and also a germaphobe but when we got ours I thought "WTF will I use this for?" It was a gift.  Then once she was out of the infant seat and sucking on EVERYTHING in sight, I pulled it out and started using it. Now I LOVE it! I can't imagine not using it. Ours covers the front and dips down a big so I put snacks there when we're shopping, snacks=mommy getting to shop!

As for germs, they are REALLY bad on the carts! I wasn't really aware of this until one friends daughter got hand foot and mouth disease from a cart and another friends kid got fifth disease. Both pedi's think it's from shopping carts since neither use covers and both were going around in our areas (although none of us had a clue).

I've only used it out to dinner a couple of times and it's kind of a PITA to stuff in the seat, it's much better for carts. Besides on the high chairs it's not like she's touching them, she's pushed right up to the table and eating like everyone else.

  • Never had or used one.  I can see the appeal of them, but to me they fall into the "just one more thing to carry" category.  I did usually keep a travel pack of clorox wipes or wet ones in my diaper bag for those times where cleanliness was in question.
