I don't want to give up cloth!

So, I have a stash of mainly FB OS.  I'm not really crazy about them, but they were a gift and free, so no complaints. I've started buying some, though. I just bought some tots bots and some BG 4.0's.

Anyway. LO has pretty chunky thighs. And the FB always seem to leak, no matter what setting I have it on. But I noticed that her legs are SO dry in a ring around her thighs where the diapers touch her. I try to keep her lotioned and give her plenty of naked time. She never acts like her diapers bother her, either.

To make matters worse, she has had a reoccuring yeast infection. And, when I went to pick her up from my mother's last Friday, there were raised, red, huge marks around her legs. I'm guessing the dryness made her skin more prone to the yeast, because before it was a fairly small rash. We've been treating it with Ny-Stop. Until then, it had never been this bad.

So, I immediately went to the store and got sposies, since those are more gentle on her legs. And, I had posted here about yeast...come to find out, you have to treat CD for yeast. I have NO idea why I didn't think about that before. Her legs are healing just fine and I already treated my stash with bleach.

But, I am questioning weather or not to even go back to cloth, at least until I can find the right diaper that doesn't squeeze the crap out of her legs. :(  Man I wish there were some local stores that sold CD.

  • Recurring yeast made me switch to wool covers instead of PUL.  But the marks on her leg might not be yeast.  L used to get them from the Dream Eze diapers with have something other than PUL.

  • How are you adjusting the FB leg elastics? We get chafing on DD's thigh chub if we have them too tight in the front, or even, but when we adjust mostly in the back, they work well without those angry red marks we had in the beginning. When we double stuff with hemp, they're now our go-to diapers that she can't pee through, so I really hope you're able to make yours work!

I have one set to 2 and one to 3. I never really thought which was which would make a difference though. So, maybe I could try a 4 in the front and a 1 in the back? Lol I have no idea, I'm kind of at a loss with the FB, I want to love them.

  • i've had success with Minky happy flute diapers they're also $10 or less.  They're soft on the legs, but great for a chunky thigh and they're microfleece vs microsuede on the inside.

  • Maybe try some prefolds or fitteds with wool covers before giving up?  The breathability of more natural fibers could help with the yeast and there wouldn't be anything really squeezing her legs to leave the marks.  The wool doesn't have to be expensive if you, or someone you know, have even beginner sewing skills.  I whipped up a pair of longies from an old sweater in about an hour.  You can always sell your FB to recoup some of the money.

  • I had a friend with a chunky baby and having the same problems. She went to Blueberry diapers and didn't have any more issues. They are a bit more expensive though.

  • We don't have yeast but we have the nasty red marks on the legs! Ryan doesn't have chunky legs and it's only one thigh with marks. It's driving me crazy. I check that they're not too tight but I think he's just so active that they're rubbing really bad.
