OK, so the name Emery was not very popular, based on my last post. What about Emerson for a boy?
Sounds like a group called emerson drive! But idk about emery or emerson being for a boy. Emerson more so then Emery for a boy though? More depends on how YOU guys feel about it GL in the name game!
Emerson - boy name in may opinion. As in Ralph Waldo Emerson, yes it's a last name in that case, but I've always liked that name since college - RWE is an author, same time as Henry David Thoreau ... Walden Lake., etc. All and all I like Emerson for a boy.
Emerson I picture as a boy as well. There is a eating place here in Kansas (not sure other states) called Emerson Biggens......I would hate for your daughter to have big hooters with the name Emerson.
I like it and think we will use it for a middle name if we have a boy. It is a family name for us and it is traditionally a male name so I would be happy to name a boy that to help keep it a male name! Girls have enough wonderful names, stop stealing boy ones!
I think of Emerson as a girl's name. Even though it may have started out as a boy's name, I think more and more girls are being named Emerson (kind of like Ashley, Avery, etc).
Funny enough, I think of Emerson as more of a boy's name than Emery. I think it's the "son" ending, which typically denotes "son of." I don't know what happened with Allison.
Don't let strangers on a message board sway your opinions. Name your child what you and your DH want.
My DD's name is Emerson. We call her Emmy for short. The day I delivered, the nurse said they'd have 3 Emerson's born there, all girls. We found it in a baby name book in the girl section...
Strangely, I have never heard of Emerson being a girl's name... I've really fallen in love with some of the "old-world" names... sadly enough, since reading the Twilight saga and hearing the author say she wanted the names of the vampires to coincide with the time-frames in which they would have lived before their change.
I like Emerson a lot! I also like Emery. There is a lovely man I used to go to church with whose name was Emory, so I only think of it as a boy name. I have also fallen for the name Emmett, but DH doesn't like it one bit.
I'm with the PP, stick with what you and DH want to name YOUR child. It is your decision ultimately, no matter what anyone thinks of your choice.
My cousin just named his daughter Emerson because they loved Emma, but thought it was too trendy. I love it for her, and don't know any others. FWIW, lots of family members (mostly the older generation) thought it was too masculine for a girl.
Would it have a NN for your son?

GL in the name game!
Also, I've only heard it as a boy name. Interesting that others seem to think it's a girl name.
I have 2 friends with Emerson's. I personally LOVE it and I say go for it if you like it.

I think Emerson for a boy or a girl is very nice. I also like Emery.
But, it depends on what YOU love.
I like that it's also a trendy boutique! In this case the designer is a female named Emerson (see her photo in the About Us section)

I work with a young man named Emerson - when I met him recently, I thought, "What a cool name!!!"
I love it for a boy - not at all for a girl. But then I don't like Avery for a girl either, as well as many other of the "unisex" names!!
OP, is that your daughter? What a cute pic!!!
