Netti pot?

I think that's what it's called at least. Has anyone used one? I think I remember them being discussed on here before. I woke up yesterday with a horrible cold and my family is in from oot and I don't want to miss out on hanging with them while they're here. Do you suggest trying the netti pot? Or, what are your get well quick secrets?

Re: Netti pot?

  • I <3 my netti pot!!  Use it all the time!  Spring allergies, colds & sinus trouble and I use it nightly in the winter when I feel like my nose/sinuses are all dried out and uncomfortable from the heat.  It's wonderful.  It's funky at first but once you get the hang of it, it feels great!  If you do it, make sure you use warm water, it does not feel good with cold :)  Also, I buy little packets of mix for it.  Some people make the stuff themselves but that makes me nervous :)

  • My Mom uses hers all.the.time. I have never tried it but I don't have allergies or sinus issues. I hear great things, give it a try!

  • I hated the netti pot. When I used it I felt like I was drowning and it burned (all of which could be contributed to user error, but still). I have allergy and sinus issues all year round, and it's just never seemed to work for me.

Personally, I could be a spokesperson for Advil Cold and Sinus. It's genius. Also, I know people that would swear by Theraflu and Cold-eeze, both of which I've never tried.

    Hope you feel better!

  • Big fan of the neti pot. I travel a lot for work and always take it with me to stave off any travel ickies in planes, hotels, offices. Agreed that it takes a few tries to get the hang of it.

  • I love it when I have a cold, or just summer sinus issues.  I would not be without it.  Make sure to buy the SinuCleanse packets that go with it.  That solution is much nicer than the homemade stuff.  It truly helps.  If you really can't breathe, use the netti, then blow your nose, then use some afrin spray or something like it to really open your sinuses up.  Netti=instant relief, no side effects, and you can use it as much as you want to.  Hope you feel better soon!

  • Netti pot = sweet relief for me. I've used it through a few colds so far and I really think it helps shorten them for me. Now, if I didn't feel like a big doof while using it...
  • I really wish I could hire a neti instructor because I want to love mine...I just can't seem to figure out how to use it properly!!

  • We use the Sinus Rinse bottles.  I look at those Netti Pots and can't even imagine how to use them.  I think the Sinus Rinse bottles are the same idea, just easier - at least I think so :)  It uses the same solution.  They are awesome!

  • My husband swears by this thing.  He used it a few months ago and raves about it all.the.time.  He told me to tell "the internet girl" to make sure you use the saline stuff and not just water :)

  • I have one and I like it so much, I bought one for DH.  His sinus and allergy troubles are much worse than mine, and he uses it daily.  They definitely help shorten the duration of a cold and I know it's prevented a sinus infection for me at least twice.

My recommendation:  use it in the shower.  If I didn't, I'd have snot down the front of myself.  I feel like an idiot when I use it.  But at least it goes down the drain and not on me.  :)

  • I have the squeeze bottle. It is much easier to use than the netipot.
