Has anyone tried specifically for a girl or a boy?

I've been hearing some about charting your "girl" and "boy" days. I bought the ovulation tests and so far I still haven't had a period since having DS but we are TTC anyway.  Just started the tests and nothing yet....I haven't done too much research yet but wondering if anyone has done this and if it works.  I really want a girl and I dont think I can handle having a third child!

  • We weren't specifically trying one way or the other with DD but we TTC 4 or 5 days before ovulation and had a girl. This one we're staying team green but we only TTC the day of ovulation so we'll see!

  • I can tell you that with both of our girls I was charting and starting TTC a few days before ovulation.  Next time I plan to try closer to the day of (we want another boy down the road) :)

  • With DD 1 we TTC the day of ovulation and with DD 2 it was 2 days before.
  • I have two boys now and we will be trying for a girl next time.  Although the idea of three boys sounds really fun too, so who knows how much of an effort we'll really put in to the "girl" methods.

I have a book that a friend gave me with all of the info about the Shettles method so I'm reading up on that.

  • There is more to this theory than just what day you have sex on. It's called Shettles theory and I think he has a few books.
  • We didn't try (we weren't actually TTC at all) for a girl when we got pregnant with DD, but the last time we were together was at least 3 days before ovulation so when I got my BFP I figured we had a greater chance of having a girl (according to the Shettles method) and we did.

There's lots more you can do though...my friend really wanted a girl and she was on a special diet, timed intercourse, used certain positions, etc.  There was a website she found with a lot of information, but I don't know what it was called.  We'll find out in a few weeks if it worked or not...her big u/s is coming up soon.

  • I have a friend who charted and planned specifically for boys both times - and she has two boys. We tried for a boy, but we're going team green, so we'll see in 6 months. I'm not sure if there really is any truth in the timing of sex, but from what I've heard, it really helps.
