Feeling depressed lately for both kids :(

Maybe it's the Reglan i've been on the last few weeks to boost my milk supply, but I wake up every morning depressed for my 10 mo. & 2.5 yr. old. I'm feeling so guilty for having them close in age. I feel like my older one really needs a lot of attention from me right now to learn and experience things and my 10 mo. had colic for 5 mo. so she's behind and really needs working with.  I've been home for 10 mo. & go back to work in 2 weeks and I just worry that I'm not giving them the time/attention they both deserve every day. I really don't know what I do with them all day.  We play, watch a little TV, and I feel so guilty like 'what do I do with them' and worry and wonder what the nanny does all day to keep them busy around the house. Too many thoughts in my head right now :(

  • Ive been feeling sad for all 3 of ours as well.  Just doesnt seem like they have enough fun or get enough attention :(  Wish I could take each of them on a seperate outing every week :(  Hopefully the holidays will put some cheer in us :)

  • I got depressed when I was on leave with #2 so maybe going back to work will give you enough of a break to get re-energized.  Although you can't think of what you do all day, I'm sure your children appreciate even the little things you do with them.  You might not realize it, but your children feel lucky to just have you there with them.  Even if you're just watching a show together they'll always prefer doing it with their mom instead of the nanny :)

  • I think everyone with more than one kid feels that way now and then.  I can tell you that there are times when I feel all the kids need me at the same time, and no matter who I choose to help first I'm wrong.  DH and I do our best to give all the kids one on one time.  They are all enrolled in 1 activity (DD2 and DS2 gymboree, DD1 gymnastics, DS1 soccer) so that gives them one on one time with one of us at least once a week. (makes life busier for us, but it's definitely worth it!) When the nanny has them we have a schedule which gives her time with each of the little ones in the afternoon, DS1 goes to Kindergarten in the afternoon and DS2 goes to pre school in the mornings and naps in the afternoon.  I think you will find your own "balance" and it will all fall in to place.  I also give our nanny ideas of what to do, or try to set something up before I leave so she can do some fun things with them.
