advice for making bedtime better?

So we are having a really difficult time with bedtime for our little guy.  He is tired and happily sleeping either in our arms or in his boppy then he wakes for his last bottle of the night and we go to put him in his crib and he is just unhappy.  He grunts from reflux and cries.  He is in a Danny sling and on prevacid so I don't think it is all to blame on reflux.  After his middle of the night feeding he goes back to sleep usually much better so I don't think it is the crib either.  I just don't understand.  It is frustrating though because we are exhausted and just can't catch a break about going to bed earlier.  Any advice?  Otherwise please remind me that the newborn phase does not last forever.  I feel like we will never sleep again!

Re: advice for making bedtime better?

  • You are NOT alone. We had 2 babies doing this at the same time.. Exact same thing, they would fall asleep after 930 bottle we would put them in cribs and they would be miserable until next feeding at 130 and then sleep great after that in beds. So we tried a few new things. One night we just gave up and put them in swings and bounceys by our bed, but obviously not the best option. We got soothers for the crib that make nature sounds and then we warmed their swaddle blankets and their swaddle me in the dryer before bed. It does seem to be working. We have some bad moments still but just don't give up mommy,, it gets better, It already has for our girls!

    GOOD LUCK!

  • First off... ((HUGS)).  And you're right...it won't last forever. Just seems that way.

Do you swaddle? We had good results with Swaddleme sleep sacks and letting them sleep in their Fisher Price Lamb seats.  Also, do you BF or FF? The other big thing for us was switching from powdered formula to the ready-to-feed kind.  We saw an immediate improvement with making that change.

My only other suggestion would be the "baby crack" machine... aka the HomeMedics Spa Sounds Lullaby machine.  My guys still use that everynight. It's a white noise machine.

    Good luck!!
