Dry nipples?

Ok...so in the past few days I have noticed that my nipples and areola have become extremely dry. It is almost like I have gotten a bad sun burn and the skin is starting to peel (w/o the burn)! I have to apply lotion several times a day. It is really strange. Has this happened to anyone else? TIA!

My nipples are very dry. They aren't peeling, just look ashy. I"m using bio oil on my belly so I"m using it there too

Yes! I have never experienced this before either. I've been putting vasaline on at night and that has helped immensely.

FWIW, I found the Medela lanolin much gentler on the nipples when spreading than the Lansinoh was. It is available at Target.

This! They're not peeling, just itchy and a little flaky. I've just been putting lotion on them.

First thing to do is to stop washing them with soap. The soap is drying them out even more. You should invest in some nipple cream. I used Lanolin but I am allergic to wool and did not think twice about it until I used it and my nipples were on fire. So now I use The First Years lanolin free nipple butter. You can use any type of lotion but you would be better off using chapstick.

Yes...I have been using pure Shea Butter all over my breast for the dry peeling and the stretch marks (hoping to keep them to a minimum) lol

I'm not sure if you can find it in all areas though. The one I have is white or yellow and you scoop it out of the container and rub it in your hands to smooth it. You may be able to find it at some all Natural Health store or holistic centers. Shea Butter is used for a lot of different remedies.

I was experiencing this as well, I went and purchased some Lansinoh Lanolin last week and put it on twice a day, and definitely before I showered. I also have stop washing the nipple with any kind of soap- only water (I was using dove and ivory soap before and they were still dry, itchy, and irritated). Since using the lanolin, I notice a big difference!! They are soft and supple now, and the itch and flaking has stopped.
