Do you put a coat on your LO in the car?

I know you can't put the big puffy coats on them in the car, but do you put ANY types of coats on in the car?

I want to do whatever is safest - for sure.  However, it's VERY cold here and even getting his coat on and off in the car before he gets in the seat lets a lot of really cold air inside!

Thanks for sharing!

  • I put his coat and everything on wrap him in a blanket get in the backseat with him, shut the door strap him in then cover him in a blanket.

  • Yes he wears a jacket - and then a blanket on top of that. If we are going for a long car ride - 30 minutes or longer, he doesn't wear a jacket though. I just cover him in a blanket while we go outside - and then cover him with it in the car. He gets way too hot if we have the jacket on him for long rides.

Edit - he wears a fleece jacket.

  • I put her in a fleece hoodie, over her clothes. It is fairly thin. We won't put her puffy coat on, nor her snowsuit/bunting, in the carseat. We cover her legswith a small blanket if it's really cold, then have a cover for over the carseat. She stays warm enough, but sometimes we'll also throw a blanket over the carseat cover until we get into the car. I don't think a coat at all is safe, but feel OK about the thin hoodie.
  • Fleece jacket yes, the puffy heavy duty winter coat - no.
  • We got one that is thin but still has the wind repellent outside. It would be like if you put a wind breaker over a thin fleece. Before that we had one like a pea coat. We use a blanket too, it gets cold here!

  • We do a sweatshirt and blanket sprint to the car. I don't even bother bringing the jacket anywhere which more than likely gets me the side eye. I cuddle him in my jacket and go no further outside than from car to house, car to store, house to car, etc. If we were traveling outside of the town and the issue of a crash in the cold were to be a possibility, he would be dressed much different.

  • DD has a couple coats that stay on her in the carseat.  She has 2 puffy type coats that don't pass the test so I take them off once the car is warmed up.

  • He has several zip up hoodies (not thick) that yes he wears in his carseat.   He does not wear his winter jacket in it.   He is still in the infant seat (until later today) so we just cover him in blankets.   I have 3 kids I always get everyone in the van shut the door (warm it up usually prior to leaving)  then put DS2 in, then DS1 and finally DD.
