Our local fire department drove through the neighborhood tonight with Santa riding on top of the big truck. I thought it was totally cool and rushed out the door with Ellie to show her; she was okay until they blasted their sirens and air horns. Now we can't get her to go to sleep!
She begged to come inside so I brought her in right away and she spent the next 20 minutes with her fingers in her ears. Now every time we leave her room she starts crying again in about 5 minutes and asks to be rocked when we go in. Then she says something about "it's just a fire truck". I've been in there three times, DH is in there right now. I keep telling her the fire trucks have all gone home to the fire station and they went to sleep and aren't coming back, but it is not helping.
She has been waking up during the night recently anyway; this is going to be a very, very long night!!
Re: Gee thanks, Santa, you jerk!
It is soo completely my own fault. She has issues with the noise big trucks make when they drive by, I should have realized the sirens would scare her.
I have been back in there again once more and showed her out the window that there are no trucks out there, and I gave her a couple more of her stuffed animals and a big huge soft blanket she asked me for. I am hoping that maybe she is tired enough now to fall asleep. Watching in the video monitor and she is still laying down and not moving too much, so crossing my fingers!
