Re: list 'trashy' name trends here

  • I really don't want to offend anybody but the first name that comes to mind is Destiny. Its funny how a person you've known can totally change a name for you.

  • Trashy popular names?  Navaeh for starters...Any of the Caylee, Bailey, Kinley, Bentley type names that are just made up.
  • I agree with your starter list and add:

    Gems (Diamond)

    adjectives (precious)

  • Bentley.  Why not just name your kid Mazda or Subaru?

Most of the girl names ending in -ley or -leigh, like Kinsley/Kinsleigh.

Funny, there is a Diamond and a Precious at DD's school.  Cracks me up!

  • --Taking a commom name and replacing i's and c's with "cooler" letters like y's and k's. For example: Kaleb, Addysenne.

--Name Mashups. It's a little more okay if you are trying to incorporate two family names into one middle name, but still. Kately and Brilynn are just weird.

--Name girls masculine names because of some perceived "edge." Reese, Cameron, Robin, Jamie, and Taylor have become legitimately unisex--I'm not talking so much about those. I'm thinking Blake, Dylan, James...

  • Smashed up names for sure.  I have posted this before, but a friend of a friend Ari and his wife, Mitzu have decided to torture their child with the name Aritzu.
  • Brand names as names - Chanel, Dior etc
  • Names of spices (or foods in general)

    Honey

    Basil

    Cinnamon

    Apple

    Clementine

    Peach

    Cherry

    Candy

  • Place names (Dallas, Austin, Denver...)

Others I consider "trailer park" names are: April, Diamond, Destiny, Cody, Dalton...

I agree with others above with the car names (Bentley, Mercedes) and brand names (Dior) and the adjectives (Precious). I also think cre8tiv spellings are trashy as well as everyone's favorite Nevaeh.

My LO has a trailer park name then! lol. It's a family name (Buffalo Bill Cody was one of my great Grandfathers) and it's a shortened version of my maiden name. I guess since I know the history/story behind it I don't view it as trailer park.

  • My own personal list in no particular order...

    1. Misspelled/kre8ively spelled names (especially when that spelling detracts from pronunciation. This includes substituted letters like K and Y)

    2. Label names

    3. Misused word names, often compounded (Instead of Angel Marie, Angel Heaven Pink)

    4. Made up names

    5. Apostrophes

    I'm sure I have more.

ETA: I'm suspicious of the letters K and Y also.

  • Neveah. It screams trailer park to me. That and everything you associate with strippers: Candy, Ivy, London, Paris, Jasmine, Angel, etc.  I also personally hate when you add put first names together (with the single exception of Annmarie).

    Gems (Diamond)

I'd qualify this one and say that Diamond is more in the "names of costly things the parents probably can't afford" category than "precious stones" in general--Ruby and Pearl are both long-standing acceptable names for people, and Opal, while unusual, has also been in use for some time. (It was my grandmother's name, and both the year she was born and the year before, half the girls in the town her family lived in were named Opal, Ruby, or Pearl)

  • Personally, names that end with "ington."  It is like someone is trying too hard to sound uppity and British.  Plus, they just sound like something a developer would name a new subdivsion.  We will live across from a Kensington Place and my city also has a Carrington Estates.  Whenever I see those names, I automatically think of a subdivision.
  • All the varieties of Aiden, including, but not limited to, Brayden, Caden, Jayden, Hayden, Hell, even Peyton sort of fits into this category phoenetically.

Real or imaginary girl names brought to you by the superfluous use of the letters "K" and "Y" - Kayley, Hayley, Jayley, Mykayla, Skyla, Kyla, etc.

Gemstone/Jewelry names - Amber, Diamond, Sapphire, Ruby, Sterling, Marquise, etc.

Girl names ending in "-- sley" are trashy in the sense that they are an attempt by the parents to give the kid some "blue blood," forgetting that they live in a suburb of Milwaukee and their closest tie to any real royalty is the Disney Princess DVD playing on the TV... think Presley, Tinsley, Ainsley, Kinsley, etc.

Places as names - Paris, Vegas, Dallas, Brooklyn, Austin... for some reason, I'm blanking on others but they're out there.

July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

These are the ones I was going to say on top of the ones the OP listed like names spelled backwards and random "y" placement.

Oh, on the other end of that, I'd also like to add names that end in "i" like Staci, Brandi. I'm sure someone will be offended by that one..

Random names that I think of as somewhat trashy are Trixie, Dixie, and Lola. I know Lola is popular, though, so maybe I'm alone in this thinking.

  • Almost any name that ends in an 'i'. The only exception I can think of is the name Ari and Eli. Examples: Kelli, Holli, Kati, Emmi, Ali

Almost any name that ends in -yn.  Examples: Camryn, Jadyn, Brooklyn.

Brand names as names - Chanel, Dior etc

I wouldn't name my kids these, but to be fair, these are names of people.  I truly admire Coco Chanel as a ballbusting visionary (my trip to 31 Rue Cambon last May was like a pilgrimage), and I love her name (Gabrielle, nn Coco), but I couldn't name a kid that, because DH has a cousin named Gabrielle...

And I agree on the booze names (Brandy, Margarita, Jamison), place names, and the car names.

How to name a stripper: place, car, booze!

Crap!  I have a "trailer park" name.  this could be why I have always been drawn to RVs.
