Non Clicky poll: Whats your Santa gift giving tradition?

Just wondering if Santa brings gifts how many? Is it just the stocking or all/most gifts under tree?

Re: Non Clicky poll: Whats your Santa gift giving tradition?

  • When I was little Santa would bring us one big gift and a few small ones under the tree. I can't remember about the stockings I have to ask my mom but I know they were normally filled with small fifts and candy.

  • One big gift. The biggest one. The one you really, REALLY wanted but mom said it was far too expensive.

Mom usually filled the stockings with little trinket-y toys and candy and we ate those on Christmas eve after we opened our gifts.

After everything else was open we had to go to bed and HOPE and be super giddy for that one last gift to blow the rest away. I loved the way we did it. I'm excited for my son this year because he'll actually understand it. Santa is bringing him a bike. He's been riding his tricycle all over the house and his poor knees pretty much hit his arm pits. He sees daddy riding his bike every single day and LOVES riding in the kid trailer. Having his own bike like daddy's is going to make him feel like the king of the world. I can't wait for him to see the gift AND to go on bike rides with him this summer. I have a feeling he and daddy will be on bikes a lot while I'm trying to get a little sleep after this little girl is born.

(can you tell I'm super excited? sorry) :-)

  • Sounds like he'll love it. I always have so many Christmas dinners ect to go to or else I would do it how you do. I've always thought was a great way!
  • Stockings and a few small gifts under the tree.  This year S is getting two Santa gifts, the rest from mom & dad.  I haven't figured out L's gift division yet cause it's not like she cares. lol

  • Santa brings most of the presents and stocking stuffers wrapped under the tree in color coded paper.  Mom and Dad just do a few small special presents from each of us.

We started the tradition last year of having the boys exchange their presents on Christmas Eve to each other.

  • DH and I talked about it and we decided that people bring gifts and Santa brings stockings. This was motivated by us not wanting C to ask for some big gift that we don't want her to have/can't afford and then being sad that Santa didn't bring it. I saw a post to this effect on a board where the LO wanted a VERY specific item and mom didn't really want to get it but felt like she had to since that was the one thing he really really wanted from Santa.

  • Santa fills stockings with only handcrafted items and edibles (like oranges, or candys from local small businesses) and he brings each child one present that they asked for (within reason). This year, completely on his own, Ben asked Santa for a big firetruck with a ladder that goes up and down, and buttons to turn on the lights and sirens. So Santa found that and it will be here for Ben christmas morning.

  • Until TB, I never heard of Santa bringing a specific amount of gifts. In my family, stocking are from Santa. You get an apple, an orange, a candy cane, some trinkety things (wrapped), Tic Tacs, candy, nuts, a toothbrush, chapstick, and other various things.

The gifts under the tree are either from Santa, Mom and Dad, or siblings. The tag lets you know. (Isn't that why gifts have tags? I don't get the "Santa uses special paper" either. And I hadn't heard that until TB either.)

  • Santa fills everyones sock with lots of neat, toys candy and just fun things, for some reason santa never filled my moms sock with much he must have been a bad girl.  Then santa brings a nice gift that is unwrapped and next to the socks sometimes you have to figure out what pile is yours since they are not labeled.  All the wraped presents under the tree are from each other and are opened after brunch.

DH's family didn't do santa so we are having a hard time compromising on how much stuff DS gets for christmas I want tons and he wants like one small gift.  I won I went shopping yesturday...

  • When I was a kid, Santa brought the BIG gift and a few small ones, and he did the stockings. I always thought the stocking was the best part. There was GOOD stuff in there.  I'm doing the same thing with DS, but still working out the kinks.  My parents never put ANYTHING under the tree untill after we went to bed X-mas eve and I really wanted to follow that because it was really magical to talk out and see ALL the stuff put outI've failed at that this year, because I don't have anywhere to put everything, so all of DH's stuff is wrapped and under the tree.
