Re: Non-clicky Poll: Christmas Stockings

  • I'm so excited that this is the first year that we'll have matching stockings.  Before last Christmas I commissioned a good friend's grandmother to knit us all stockings.   She didn't have them done in time for last year which was no big deal but we finally get to use them now!

Eli and Evan's are reindeer with their names.  DH's and mine are snowman with our names.  So cute!  I'll have to PIP them later on.

Can't wait to fill 'em up!  They're nice and big :-)

  • DH has a fuzzy Yankees one, mine is a fuzzy Red Sox one, and DS has a Toy Story stocking that has blinking LED lights on it. All made in China- sorry. I'm hoping to get some made for next year that are personalized, but for now, these work.

  • C's is a super awesome tree that I made (everything was hand-stitched and took me forever).  DH and I don't have any.  I want to make DH a police-themed one for next year and I have no idea what to make for mine.

    Here's C's:

  • The kids each have one from PBK with their names on them and I love those, but DH &I just have kind of plain ones that are kind of cheap looking.  Hoping to change that sometime!

  • DD has one that has her picture on it. It is plain jus red and green but I have her Chrismas picture in it from last year with the year on it. DH has a Santa one and I have a snowman. DD2 has one that my mom bought that I think has snowmen on it and says first Christmas with the year. She'll get it as a gift.
  • DH and I both have our first stockings.  You know, the ones where someone wrote our names on them in glue and then sprinkled on glitter? =-)  Our moms both saved them so we figured we would use them for decoration.  I bought a third one and put her name on it with felt letters to finish off the set.    We don't really use ours since they're over 30 years old and we don't exchange gifts using the stockings anyway so we just use ours as decoration but we'll stuff hers.

Mine is similar to this, except it includes a lot of puffy paint. lol

B & the girls have cheap-o, boring, ugly stockings.  I keep saying every year that I'm going to do felt ones for the whole family but I never get around to it.

You should check the PBK site soon - they've already marked the stockings all down.

I made us a "set" of felted wool ones (yeah recycling!) - DH's and mine match and C's "coordinates" with cuff that matches ours.  They are 90% done - I'll have to post pics soon. I spent a total of $5.50 and I'm so pleased with them!

  • We have a pair of red velvet-y stockings from WalMart (from back when that was pretty much the only place we shopped at as that was all that was available) They have a bit of gold ribbon and embroidered embellishment on top.  I also have a homemade red stocking my mom made when I was a little one.  It has my middle name embroidered over green fabric on the top cuff.  Green on the toe too.

*I was going to make us a set of matching stockings, but after we bought all the fabric, I talked myself out of it.  I HATED the fabric DH picked out for his.  It was so tacky (cartoon reindeer) and I wanted something we'd all want to have hanging for a month!  So I'll try again next year.  I'll use the fabric I got for Christmas bags.

*I found a stocking for C at Kohl's for $4.49 this week.  It's velvety red with a green cuff and a gold embroidered C cuff- the C is embellished with rhinestones.  I think it looks wonderful next to DH and I's stockings.  I would have bought one for LO #2 (who isn't even being attempted for a while) but I don't think I've 100% sold DH on the boy name I have in mind.  If I did, the girl name and the boy name would have the same initial, so it wouldn't matter if I bought ahead.

  • Lol, we have the PBK ones too! I was feeling a bit un-ef about them, so I'm glad I'm not the only one that has them. Last year I bought the boys the train, santa, and reindeer ones. This year I got dh and I the red gingham and velvet ones...which is pretty much our christmas presents, since the moolah aint flowing around here. I don't care that they're PBK, I lurve them!

  • I have ice-skating mice on mine. It was embroidered by my now deceased great-aunt. We will never have matching stockings, because I'll never give this up.

DH's came from...Lands End maybe? He bought one online last year at my insistence. He didn't have one before that.

My mom got J. his. It's got a cute picture of Santa putting presents out. I don't know where they got it.

FWIW, I'd prefer DH and J. to get some made by someone we know. Except I don't know anyone who can/would do it. Growing up everyone in my family had a stocking made especially for them. My mom's, dad's, and oldest sisters matched. Then the lady who did them passed away. So my other sister and I got ones from our great aunt.

  • DH and I had matching stockings, then DD had one that was just a cheapie from Target and DS had none, so I commissioned some this year.

I got them from Hems of Whimsy off Etsy and I Love them!!

    Here is a PIP:

I got to customize/personalize and choose the fabric and appliques for all of them.
