TMI... a pooping question

It's happened once or twice before, but after I poop there's bright red blood coming out of my butt.  I wiped today and there was some around my vagina, but there was so much blood coming out of my butt, I guess it's possible that it could have traveled there too?

I've talked to my doctor about this a few months ago, and she recommended more fiber in my diet and stool softeners.  I did try putting more fiber in my diet (I guess I could put more in), but I haven't tried stool softeners yet.

Has anyone else had this problem???  Should I be worried??

Re: TMI... a pooping question

  • I have this.  For me, it's hemrhoids.  Probably 70% of the time when I poop there is bright red blood, even if its not painful, or there arent actually any henrhoids to be felt.

  • It looks like you might have hemorrhoids!
  • It sounds like hemorrhoids.  There is some cream you can get if it hurts.  Also my dr. says we can take benfiber.  It's a pill that adds fiber to your diet.

  • If you are straining when you go, you could have easily broken a blood vessel, which bleed way more than you would expect, and it could be from your vagina or your bum.  When I first got pregnant, the PNV were stopping me up, I strained, broke a blood vessel somewhere, wiped and there was bright red blood.

Fiber is your best friend right now and I swear by it to be regular.  That and lots of water to naturally soften your stool (not to mention keep your baby healthy).

I've recommended this a few times, but one bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats has over 20% of your daily dose, and I notice that they really keep me regular.  I eat other foods too high in fiber, but this is the easiest for me to remember.

But check with your doc if you're concerend or pain with the blood.

  • Can you change to prenatals that contain stool softener, that's what i take and even though I still get a bit constipated I do think it helps.

  • Colace (or the generic of) is a good gentle stool softener.  And Fibercon (again, generic is much cheaper) is another good fiber additive.
  • Thanks for all the advice, ladies!  It's gone away for now, but I am getting some fiber bread this week to eat with my lunches and some fiber bars for breakfast.  Fast and easy poop, here I come!
