who's guilty of falling asleep while holding LO

I know this is bad, and I feel guilty..well I am guilty..of falling asleep while holdiing LO. This usually happens during the night when he wakes up and bf'ing. I work on a busy hospital dept and am on my feet 7 out of the 8 hours I am there, so I am super tired when I get home. I do put LO down right after he eats which is about 8pm. But its the 12am or 3am feeding when I usually fall asleep while LO is bf'ing. Were in the middle of the bed though so he won't fall, but I do feel bad that sometimes I'll wake up an hour or two after and he's there, in my arms, sleeping. Maybe that's the reason why he hates being put down in his crib after I realize I fell asleep and attempt to put him back where he should be sleeping...

  • I have also done this while nursing at night.Β  I can't help it sometimes...I'm just that tired.

  • I actually do this on purpose *gasp* and I don't feel guilty about it one bit. My LO has had many a nap and nighttime sleep in my arms and on me while I slept too. When she was colicky it was the only way either of us could get any sleep. Over the weeks I became confident in the fact that I wasn't going to kill her by doing this and we kept it up. I love having her sleeping in my arms while I am. There's something so peaceful about it.

  • I nurse DD lying down on the bed and fall asleep every single night.Β  I have to set an alarm so I won't sleep until the morning!

  • I do it every night. Alex doesn't like to sleep, so it's a way for both of us to get some shut eye. When I wake up and realize he's trying to move into a different sleeping position, I put him back in his own bed and he's usually good for another couple of hours.

  • I do it occasionally- used to happen all the time when I was up in the middle of the night with him. Now that he usually STTN, I still do it sometimes when he is napping on me during the day. Β Can't help it- he is just too warm and snuggly :)

  • oh yea its so hard to not nod off when BFing in the side-lying position!Β  I'm a super-light sleeper though and I wake up the second DS breaks suction.Β  Right after I had him, the pain meds made me really loopy and drowsy and I'd fall asleep when I was sitting up with him!Β  I was scared of falling asleep and dropping him, so I stopped the meds.Β oh well...
  • I will sometimes on the weekend's when she falls asleep for a nap in the late morning...just to get a little nap myself. Β I like the snuggle time on the weekend with her. Β When we got up in the middle of the night with her I would sometimes and so would my DH.
  • We bedshare and I nurse side lying, so I'd say I fall asleep 99% of the time.Β  I don't feel "guilty" about it though - that's sort of how I intend to get my rest.

  • That is how we started bedsharing when she was around 3 weeks old.Β  Now she just sleeps with us every night and we all get more sleep.Β  Sometimes I fall asleep and wake up like 4 hours later when she latches back on again after finding my nipple while she is still mostly asleep.Β
  • I'm too neurotic about suffocation to do it for long. I have fallen asleep for a couple minutes while nursing. On the weekends and when I was on maternity leave I would often bring her into bed and pull all the covers down so they didn't come near her and then have her face sleeping up because I was terrified of suffocation, although I would nurse side-lying. I never thought I'd be so functional on so little sleep. I sleep better when she's in her own crib, so I'm always pleased to get her back in there and sprawl out.
