Sleeping in a recliner?

I am really thinking hard about getting a recliner. I have a really hard time sleeping, which is expected. But, I am also keeping my husband awake and he gets up early to work each day. We found a reasonabley priced one for around $330 (super ugly, but super comfy!). I was just wondering if anyone else has been sleeping in a recliner. I gave it a "test run" in the store and almost fell asleep! It seems like a great idea, but I would like some input from someone who has actually tried it.

Thanks!

Re: Sleeping in a recliner?

  • Well, I'm sleeping in a giant beanbag these days, but it's the same basic idea in terms of the position it holds me in.  I'm sleeping better than I was in the bed, and I'm not keeping my husband up.  I say go for it.  I've slept in a recliner at other times, like after ankle surgery, when I needed to make sure not to roll around in my sleep, and it worked great.

  • If I could I would.

My hips are start to hurt from laying in but but there is really no other option so I will have to just put up with it.

  • i have a lazy boy in my living room (yes ugly and does not go with my color scheme! but it was free from my dads house so i took it!)

anyways, i sit in it all day long, it gets boring but let me tell you i have only had swollen feet/legs once and it was because i was on my feet all day long. but since i have my feet elevated all damn day i dont have the problem. my doctor says its good that i am doing this cause its helping.

i would suggest that if you sleep it in put pillows around your back/front so that you are comfy, i found that if i dont my belly hangs and it puts to much pressure but the pillows def help.

    good luck!

  • I did it a time or two with No. 1 b/c of my hips hurting. I know other moms who have too. Give it a try!
  • I did when we visited the inlaws. I want a recliner!
  • I LOVE my recliner!  Like pp I do recommend bringing extra pillows along, sometimes I need a little extra support at my lower back while in the chair.  Also, I had c-sections with both of my boys and my recliner was a life-saver. When I got home and was recovering and sleeping in the chair I was easily able to transition to sitting up to nurse.  Good luck!

  • A couple of months ago when I was having severe hip pain we almost bought me one that glides too.  That way I could use it as a glider when LO arrives. They have rocker ones too.  The one I looked at was closer to $500 though so when my hip pain eased and we found a glider for under $200 we did that instead.  So... I haven't tried it, but thought you might like the idea of the glider or rocker features that some recliners have.

  • I am sleeping in my glider. My asthma has been really bad with this pregnancy and sitting up seems to help. Plus rocking back and forth takes my mind off the fact I cant breathe which causes me to relax and finally fall asleep. I say go for it!
