so the first time I was scheduled because DS was breach...i followed pretty typical night before surgery protocol >> no food/drink after a certain time, etc.
What happens if i go into labor or my water breaks before my scheduled c/s this time? When you go in do they make you wait for hours until whatever food you ate digests? Do they have to wait until x amount of bags of fluid go through your IV?
Or do they just take you right away re of your state, how far apart your contractions are, etc.
Re: Question re repeat c/s
This is exactly what happened to me 3 weeks ago. I was scheduled to have a repeat c/s on the 26th but my water broke at about 10:30 pm on the 22nd. I was told by my OB to go to the hospital asap. The anesthesiologist was hesitant to do the spinal because I had eaten within the last few hours but they decided to do the c/s anyway because I had tested positive for that Strep B thing and because I was having active contractions (even though they weren't close together and I was only dialated 2 cm). DS #2 was born at 1:17 am on the 23rd.
I had an emergency c/s with DS. No, I don't think they don't make you wait, but I had been in labor for about 18 hours without food, so I had water in my stomach and that was about it. (And had already had fluids and antibiotics.)
I'm having a repeat c/s with DD, and my OB told me that if I think (or know - if my water breaks) that I'm in labor to call the labor line right away and they'll have me come in immediately for a c/s. (I assume it would be considered an "emergency" c/s.)
I would just ask your OB at your next appointment what you should do if you do go into labor naturally.
