Poll 1crib or 2 for twins?

Someone told me that they sleep better together until at least 6 months and sometimes longer.

Just wanted to see how everyone else does it.

If you only used 1 for a few months, should we buy 2 and leave the second un-assembled or hold off on buying 2?

TIA :)

  • Ours shared for a while, from about 8m on, they've been in separate beds.

  • Just buy two now. You'll need two eventually anyway. I had mine in one co-sleeper at first, and then in one crib, and then in two cribs. They were in two separate cribs by eight weeks.

  • they shared a crib for about 3 mo and then started kicking each other and waking each other up. def need two cribs being that they are in them til 2 (average).  there is NO way they would still fit in the same crib now.
  • Ours have been in their own cribs since day 1.  You will eventually need 2; may as well start out that way.

  • My girls shared a bassinet in our room for the first three months, then they shared a crib in their room for a few weeks, and then they were sleeping in their own crib before they reached four months. We had both cribs set up that way we did not have to assemble anything while the girls were here.
  • We bought two cribs and only set up one initially.  DDs shared a crib until they were about 7 months old and then we set up the second crib.  (Well, the first couple months they mainly slept in their bouncers, but that's a different story. :-)

  • We did separate moses baskets and then RNPs. They are in their respective cribs now. They have never shared except for a nap here or there in their PNP. I was always too overly concerned about them breathing too close to one another to let them sleep together.

    This.

We had them for a month in a PnP in our room, then they shared a crib in their room until about 4 months, and now they are in 2 cribs.

This. The staff in the special care nursery where my LOs had brief stays strongly advised AGAINST them sharing due to the increased risk of SIDS. I had planned on having them share a crib but got 2 cribs (and set them up) anyway. We had them together in a PnP in our room for all of 3 nights when we woke up to DD kicking DS in the face (and she was swaddled - no clue how she turned herself sideways..) From then on, they've been in their own cribs.

  • ours have never shared... and they were STTN at 8 weeks - so the whole "sleep better together" thing was certainly not an issue for us... our boys slept great alone.
  • We have one crib and they share it. The nurses at the hospital said separate cribs and my pedi said let them share. I had planned on letting them share anyway. They sleep in their swings until their 2 am feeding and go in their crib until around 6 or 7. We are going to buy them each a new crib when we get income tax because we have a drop side crib and they've all been recalled.
