Jack has croup :(

Is it ok to let him sleep with me, or do you think he would sleep better in his own bed?  The only reason I hesitate is because my bed is really tall and there is no one to be on the other side of him, so I'm afraid he might fall off.  WWYD?

Re: Jack has croup :(

  • Boo! I'm sorry Shelley!

I don't know where he'd sleep better, but our bed is quite high and M falls asleep with me most nights before DH comes to bed. He still sleeps in a sleep sack and I kind of grab ahold of it so I'll wake up if he moves. I also put pillows on the other side of him.

Good luck and I hope he's all better soon!

  • Aw, poor Jack.  I hope he feels better soon.  M doesn't sleep well in our bed, but I agree that it's best to keep your hand on his pjs so you'll notice if he moves.  M kicks DH all night, so we are fully aware of his presence.

  • Awe. Poor Jack! When O used to sleep in our bed, she would sleep right in my arms (i would lay on my side and she would lay her little head right in the inside of my elbow). Are you doing hot steam and cold air? Ari had it when he was four and it scared me silly  (i layed on the floor beside his bed every night until he was better). I cannot imagine how scary it is for you with Jack being such a little guy! ((hugs to the fam))
  • Poor baby. I hope he feels better soon. Totally OK to let him sleep with you, put a pillow wall on one side and keep a hand on him

  • Thanks ladies!  I put him in his crib with the humidifier on full blast beside him, and left the monitor up really loud so I could hear him breathing.  We both slept ok, but not great.  Hopefully tonight will be better.

  • Poor little guy. I hope he is feeling better soon and that you both can get some good rest.

  • Poor baby.  I hope he feels better soon.  And yes, if he can sleep with you (DS won't at all -- drives me nuts), I'd just do a massive amount of pillows or large firm stuffed animals to creat a barrier between him and rolling off the bed.

  • Poor Jack - I hope he is feeling better today.  Sound like your solution worked good.  Have you thought of getting one of those bed rails?  Can't remember what they are called - it was blue and had mesh in the middle.  When T was little, I bought one - it was a rail that was anchored by sliding under the matress.  He rolled so much, but it kept him on the bed.  I think they were originally made to put on toddler beds, but worked on my double bed just fine.
  • Awww, poor Jack!

I just do a pillow wall with Margaux.

  • Poor Jack! I'm sorry.

Sarah would never fall asleep in our bed, so I can't comment. Wherever he sleeps better...

This.  If Jack sleeps better in his own bed then I wouldn't change it just because he's sick.  Simon would never sleep in our bed, he won't even lie down in it no matter how tired, he thinks our bed is a giant trampoline.  Poor Jack, I hope he gets better soon and that you don't catch it too!  (isn't croup contagious?)
