I haven't been around much- life with a 4 month old is busy! I hope everyone is doing well.
I'm wondering if you girls can recommend your pediatrician. I loved ours- until his 4 month appointment where the doctor told me that we shouldn't been feeding DS overnight anymore and that we should let him cry it out. He said that if we choose to not use the Ferber method we "are going to have him in bed with us when he's 5". He told us not to rock DS at night b/c we'll have to rock him forever. I feel like we are so far off in parenting ideas- I won't let him cry it out, I feel like if he wakes at night and wants to eat then he must be hungry, I feel like it's ok to rock him to sleep at night and if he's having trouble when he's five then so be it. My Mom rocked me to sleep at night and she didn't go off to college with me and rock me!!! LOL! I also called regarding a skin culture they did of his diaper rash- they "forgot" to call to tell me it was yeast and that they called in a script for 2 days, thus his rash getting worse. I'm just annoyed and feel like we should explore other options even if we don't end up switching.... TIA!
Re: Buffalo Pediatricians?
I don't have a rec - just don't go to Amherst Peds.
I also wanted to throw my $.02 in as well - I'd just keep your mind open to everything....I've seen anti-CIO/ferber moms on here do a quick 180 All.The.Time. - esp when they get sick of getting up in the middle of the night after a year or so. So even if you don't feel like you will EVER do something...it's nice to get another point of view. Most pediatricians recommend sleep training at some point. It's up to you to decide whether or not to follow through.
Good luck finding someone you are comfortable with - it's been really hard for us too!
We go to https://maplemedpeds.com/
They are on Maple in Williamsville. They are a family practice, but I love them. It's been so easy to get in and the doctor has never criticized my parenting choices.
We go to Tonawanda Peds, the dr. I see there is on the same page with my parenting style (and did the same things with her own kids) which I love.
Follow your gut. I switched pedis for similar reasons when Charlie was 15 months old & I regret not doing it sooner.
Charlie 11.01.07 ~ Paul 05.07.10 ~ Annaliese 02.24.12
we go to tonawanda peds and see dr braun. I love her. After every visit i tell dh that I love her. we switched when ethan was 4 months from buffalo peds. i hated how they made me feel.
our dr told us at 4 months not to rock him to sleep she did recommend some sort of CIO but at 6 months and we didn't even try until 9 months. she never made me feel bad about my choices
we see dr jobes at wheatfield pediatrics. she's been great with us and we have no complaints, though we haven't had any major issues to deal with.
i understand everyone has the right to their opinion on the best way to parent, including dr.s but they, like everyone else, shouldn't make you feel bad if yours differs from theirs.
as far as 'forgetting' to call about a prescription, mistakes happen, but if you feel that this might be something that will happen again make the switch.
I can totally let go the fact that they didn't call to tell me it was yeast and needed the script. I think it was more that I felt the doctor was pressuring me into parenting in a different way and making me feel bad about my choices. The script is just another annoyance!
no one should make you feel bad about the choices you are making as a parent unless you are driving around town, smoking crack with your kid in the trunk of your car- lol
a dr. may not agree with your parenting style but he or she shouldn't make you feel bad about it. you need to find another dr.
