Poll: What's the longest you've been away from LO?

DH and I are heading to Key West, FL on Friday for a wedding. We will be gone for four days. I know she will be in good hands, but I'm really nervous about being away that long. Embarrassed

So what's the longest you've been away?

  • About 10hrs.  We don't really travel anywhere :(  Plus, we both feel guilty asking someone to watch him at night (or overnight).  We have my brother's wedding next Sept & we're already going back & forth on taking him with us & getting a hotel room or asking someone to watch him for a night.

  • For about two days when I had to unexpectingly spend some time in the hospital.  The nights were the worst but I knew she was in great hands home with her dad.  I have to be away from her for about 3-4 days when DS decides to arrives and I'm in the hospital recuperating.  Not looking forward to that either.
  • About a week. DH and I went to Hawaii on our honeymoon when L was almost 8 months old. She stayed with the ILs most of the time and spent a couple of nights at my sister's. It wasn't as bad as I thought, though had I known how many people take babies to HI, I would have brought her along. I was pg with #2 anyway so it wasn't like I could drink and party. I was in bed by 9 pm most nights. lol

  • I would say about 10 hours, but she was with DH. When both DH and I were gone it was probably about 8. I would be really nervous too, but that's just how I am, not because I think there is reason to be nervous. Hopefully once you get there you have a great time and are so busy you don't think about being gone!

  • We spent about 36 hours away from DD when she was 16 months old, for 2 nights for our anniversary, she stayed w/ each of our parents for a night.  It was awesome, but we were both SUPER ready to pick her up by the 2nd morning.  It took a good day w/o her to relax and not be "on" like we always are with her.  But, OMG it was nice.  Waking up after 7 am was awesome and I felt so rested.  You'll have a blast!  And, I'll bet Annabelle will too - she'll get spoiled rotten!

  • A weekend and it sucked. The first night was kind of nice because I got to actually relax around adults and have a drink without being in mommy mode. The second day started sucking because I started missing him really bad. I don't like being away from my boy. But when I came home I was rewarded with the biggest smiles ever!

  • Being at work is the longest i've been away.  I refuse to let someone keep LO over night (yet) and unless H has LO, LO is always with me when i'm off of work.

  • I imagine I will win this poll.  Which is actually losing in my opinion):  I was away for 10days!!!  For me to go back to work I had to go through ReQual training in Dallas, TX.  DS was 4 months old.  I had been on Maternity leave since 20 wks Pregnant.  It was tough.  Really sucked.  Now I am gone about 10-14 days a month (in 2-4 day increments).  Home the rest of the month.

DS is home with his dad when I am gone.  It is great for them and they are super close because of it.  I have been home since November 14th and I do not work until Friday that is the flip side to being gone(:

  • I had to go on a 3 day work trip in September (while BFing, which pump and dump sucks big time) that was the longest.  But we've been doing overnights with the IL's and my parents since 6 weeks.

I'm sure it will be hard, but as long as you feel comfortable with who is watching A you should just try and keep busy, but relax at the same time.

I'm totally comfortable with my aunt watching her. Like most of you know, my aunt is like my mom. I'm thinking by Sunday, I may start to miss her more. But I'm looking forward to some me time, plus sleeping in will be a bonus.

  • I had one week where I was left Monday, came back late on Tuesday and then left again on Thursday morning and came back on Sunday.  This was all for work.

I knew she was in good hands and I actually had a nice time being away from her and being a working woman.  This was just after we had stopped nursing and pumping, so that fact helped in my being happy to be away.  I totally resented pumping in the end.

  • We have left DD with my parents overnight a few times now, but I think the first time was just after she turned 2.  But I am a wimp and DD wasn't fully weaned until she was 21 months or so.

  • Maybe 5 hours!  I left teaching because I new I would not be able to handle leaving my baby though.  I am very over protective.  My husband really wants to go on a date when we visit his parents, but I am just not ready to leave her yet.  Still working on it.  Good luck and have fun on your trip!
  • We left DS overnight with my parents once at 7 months - it went fine.  Unfortunately, it was to go to our college's homecoming...so I didn't catch up on any sleep!  :)  Pumping leading up to the trip and while we were away sucked though.

DH and I are planning a long weekend somewhere for this summer, after I wean completely.  Key West sounds lovely!  Have fun!

  • We went away a week to Italy... DD was 14mo. It was a once in a life time opportunity (which now with number two on the way) its totally not happening again. MIL and FIL watched her and it worked out great... as tons of ppl told me, it will be harder for you then her--thats true! I was worried to a certain degree, but when we were away I didnt want to worry so much that i wouldnt enjoy it. THe plain ride home is the hardest part!
