Fun Name Generator and Need Suggestions for DD #2

On a whim I did this baby name genie generator and wouldn't you know!?  Out pops the name DH keeps coming back to no matter how many times I use veto power!

Our DD1 is Eloise.  I like old fashioned names and uncommon names.  He really likes the name Olivia (as does the Baby name genie, apparently), which is lovely but way too popular in our area.  I want Olive but he thinks it is too weird.  I also like Mabel and Blythe, both of which he is okay with, but I am struggling because I don't love any of the names as much as I loved Eloise when I was pg with my first DD.

So, experts, which name would you choose: Mabel, Olive, or Blythe?

Or do you have any other suggestions?  TIA!

ETA:  Oops!  Meant to post on the name board but I would love to know what my Nor Cal ladies think too!  :)

Re: Fun Name Generator and Need Suggestions for DD #2

  • Love Olive.  Mabel makes me think of a old fat woman.

  • Have you mentioned Ruby before?  I love Ruby.
  • I adore Ruby but it is actually surprisingly popular according to the SSA (#108 in 2009).  Not a deal breaker for me, but DH thinks with our ultra-common last name, she needs a more unique first name.  Who knew he was so choosey?  I think I may just have to tantrum until he agrees to Olive.

  • Love love LOVE Olive.

Mabel is NMS.  How about Hazel?  Harriet?  I love both of those.

I like Blythe but of course just reminds me of Blythe Danner and Gwyneth Paltrow.  How about Gwyneth?  Or Gwendolyn?  Gwendoline was our (never to be used now) girl's name, after my grandmother.

  • I love Blythe! I used to know a really sweet little girl with that name so I have good associations. Weezy and Blythe...sounds good! I also love Ruby, and I don't think it's so popular that you'd need to worry about it much. Olive is cute but I don't like it as much, and Mabel is nms.

  • I like all three!  I'm no help. :(  What about:

Louella?  Adelle?  Sybil?  Earline? Beryl?  Helen?  Millie?  Dorsey? (sorry - going down the list from both DH's and my family tree)

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • I really like Olive. Love it. Similar to Olivia without the hype.

throw a pg temper tantrum until he gives in! ;-)

  • I love Mabel and Olive. I don't dig Blythe so much. I like Olivia too but of course it is popular. I had the same issue, I liked Matilda and DH liked Chloe and I thought it was too popular and he hated Matilda.  I pushed him on it but then decided it was his baby too and we should agree.

Someone mentioned Adelle which I love. That was my grandmother's name. Claire is another beautiful old fashioned name. Lots of cute ones, Rose, Pearl, Maxine (DD's middle name), Clara, Hannah, Matilda or Tilda, Lila, Virginia (Ginger nn), Amelia, Sylvia, I've even heard Poppy and Hattie. So cute.

  • I love the name Olive.  What about Helena, Estelle, Estella...

  • Oh yeah, Stella  is a pretty adorable old fashioned name.

ETA: that name generator said my baby should be named America Faith. How odd that America Faith never occurred to me....

  • I like Olive, its pretty and different.
  • Blythe was going to be DS2's name. It is also very high on our list right now. It is a toss up between Blythe and Margaret (going by Maggie) at this point.

Other names that have been vetoed by my DH but I love are Claire, Clara, and Caroline.

Good luck! Naming kids is TOUGH!

  • LOL MrsC, you crack me up!

I love Maybel because its so close to Marybelle which is my grandmothers name. For the record shes not fat but quite old ;-)

Love Olive and Blythe. I think Blythe goes better with Eloise then Olive does.

Second same sex names are hard. I still don't LOVE the name Dylan. I like it a lot, but its not the same as I felt with Logan. Sometimes I will hear a name and think, oh crap that would have been good.

  • love love love Olive.

also like Ruby ;P (although not a selection)

  • imagemrscerruti2be:
Have you mentioned Ruby before?  I love Ruby.

now that name reminds me of a stripper, Next on stage we have Ruuuuubbby!

  • I love Blythe!  What about Ingrid?  That was LO#2's name for the week post u/s that we thought he was a she. :)

  • i think you should give new life to 'Alice' and call her Al.
  • I love Olive best of your choices. Very cute, Eloise and Olive are adorable sister names.  I second the suggestion of throwing a pg tantrum. Smile

My suggestions of names I loved but couldn't use:

Daphne,  Winnifred (because I love the nm Winnie & its not even in the top 1000!), Lucy (though that one is getting much too popular in the top 100)

  • Blythe without a doubt. It's been on my name list for ages, but DH HATED it.

I'll also throw out Adelaide since you like old fashioned names and it's been on my list too.

    Good luck!

  • I love Olive too! Super cute name

(Just for fun I did this, even though I'm not even pregnant yet...I'm totally bookmarking it!)

  • Heh, we played with that name generator at the hospital with baby Olivia - I wonder if that's how we came up with that name :) In any case, Olive is super cute, too - and that's what we call Olivia when we talk about her to each other, even though she has a very different name now.
  • I like all three of your names, although Olive is my favorite. I also love Olivia.

    Our list:

    Olivia

    Katherine

    Camilla/Camille

    Lana

    Ingrid

    Lena

    Myra

    Mae

    Gillian/Jillian

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE Olive - it's on my list...my DH rolls his eyes at me when I suggest for our nonexistent future daughter.

I also like rather unique names - some of my favorites:

Harper (but NPH had to go name his daughter Harper so I doubt we'll use it - jerk!)

Emerson - it's in the running...again for our nonexistent future daughter (even though DH swears he only has strong male swimmers in his junk).

Maggie (after my grandmother whose full name was Margaret - but we would just name her Maggie - I don't like Margaret)

My names are awesome...so you should pick one ;)...but if you do...and I am ever lucky enough to have a little girl...they may share the same name...but since we're practically long lost cousins...it's okay. :)

    Oh...and you have a PM.

  • Chiming in to say that I love all of the pp's suggestions!!!  Great names and so many good ones to choose from!

{Totally random but out of curisoity, I went to the name genie site and this is what it suggested for me:

Boy: Prince Garrett  (and the note with the name told me that "It will grow on me."  Hmmm!!!)

    Girl: Hazel Melissa}

  • I like Olive and Mable.
  • Olive makes me think of the little girl in Little Miss Sunshine, and Mabel makes me think of an old woman (similar to names like Edna, they are just made for old women!)...both are nms, really.

I love Blythe, though.  Sounds...breezy and effortless. :) And I like it with your last name, too.

  • You guys are excellent name helpers!!!  DH and I are going to look over these suggestions tonight and if we cannot agree on something else, I am practicing my ugly cry!  ;)  Thank you!

  • If you like Adelle (I prefer it spelled Adele), how about Adeline? It's my BFF's name and I've always loved it.

  • I went to the generator too and it said our daughter should be Treasure Nicole...WTF?!?!?
