Induced mommas - anyone bypass the Cervadil?

I got my induction appt for the 21st, and the scheduler told me today that I won't be going in the night before for Cervadil, just going straight to the Pitocin that morning.

At this point, I'm only 2cm, 70% and -2 station, and won't have another internal before my induction appt. It seemed a bit strange to me they didn't want to do Cervadil because they've talked about it at my previous appts.... so I'm just wondering if you were induced and didn't get Cervadil, what were you at the point they started the Pit? Anyone less progressed than me? How did it turn out?

  • I was 2cm and I have no clue what effacement but I didn't do cervadil and just had pitocin. I was already having regular contractions at that point too. I had a great and easy labor too.

  • I had the same amount of progress ( although I don't know what the station was) and I didn't have cervidil. Good luck!

  • I was 3 cm dilated when induced, so the dr just gave me pitocin.  Though, after 15 hrs of labor, my stupid body wouldn't progress past 5 cm, so I had to have a c-section.  I was at 5 cm for at least 10 hours.  :(
  • I am scheduled for an induction tomorrow morning and not doing the cervadil.  If the pitocin doesn't do the trick tomorrow, we will take a break and start with the cervadil early Saturday and go from there.  I am only a fingertip dilated, 80%, and -2 station.  My fingers are crossed that the pitocin is the ticket!

  • I was about the same as you OP, and we skipped the cervadil. They used a balloon folley with pit drip on me and it worked pretty well. Good luck!

  • I had the cervadil, but it got me to about the point where you are already all on your own, then they started pitocin.  So, you probably don't really need it.

They started the pitocin with me at about 7 a.m. and I was at a 10 and started pushing around 3:00 p.m. if that is any idication of how long it takes from 3 cm, but of course, everyone is different.  I pushed for three hours and ended up with a c-section...Go in with an open mind about your labor plans!

  • I was not dilated at all and only 50% effaced when I went in for my induction. I assumed they were going to do the cervadil but never did. Doc tried to break my water as soon as I got the IV started but my cervix was too high and he couldn't get to it. After 8 hours of pitocin he came back and tried again and it was successful. Three and a half hours later I was fully dilated and she came flying out in a push and a half!

  • I was given cervidal at 6pm on 12/10/10 for signs of preeclampsia, and woke up at 3am with regular contractions. It put me into labor, so thankfully I never had to have the pit.
  • I was 75% effaced and 1 cm dilated the day before my water broke. No real contrax for the next 12 hours so I had to be induced with pit. Dr said that cervadil wouldn't work because the fluid would wash it away.

Honestly, the pit wasn't too bad. I made it to 5 cm before really feeling like I needed pain meds. I got them and the rest wasn't bad at all.

Total time from starting pit to delivery was 6 hours. (I dilated from 5-10 in about 45 minutes after getting the epidural.)

  • Thanks ladies, this is really helpful!

I was worried going straight to the Pit wasn't going to do anything other than route me closer to a c-section, but it sounds like a lot of you were right around where I was and had smooth inductions with a vaginal delivery, so whew! :)

  • I had no progression at all so I did get the Cervadil over night and the potocin the next morning.  At 70% effaced, maybe you just don't need any further help thinning??? I would call  your doc back and talk to them about it further if you're uneasy about it...

  • I didn't have any cervadil, just pitocin.  I believe I was 80% effaced and 3 cm when I went in for induction.

  • I was about as far along as you are and did not get any Cervadil, just Pit.  After 24 hours I hadn't progressed one bit and went in for a C/S.  Good Luck.
