So J woke up from his nap today and informed us his ears were hurting inside and he needed to go see his doctor (called him by name).
Yep. Double ear infection. Now if only he had the power to prescribe his own Augmenten(how the heck do you spell that?) we would be in business.
Poor little guy. I was afraid of ears when I heard his post-vomit-fest cough and congestion. The doc was looking in his ear, and asked J where it hurt. J says, "WIGHT DERE, Doka! WIGHT DERE!"
I joke about his self-diagnosing, but I'm grateful that he can finally tell us. I know we've all done the is-it-ears-teething-reflux-viral-should I call the pedi-dance.
I think he will wait until after the first of the year to start taking new patient appointments.
Re: Son, heal thyself...
Ugh, that sucks. Have you guys thought about tubes yet? I'm not meaning to be pushy, just curious. And you were close on the spelling...I'm pretty sure it's augmentin.
About the tubes: We have had the, "If he gets one more EI this cold season, I'm going to refer you...." talk from the pedi at least twice, but it seems he never gets that "next" one.
It is our pedi's opinion that as long as we can clear the infections with antibiotics, we should avoid surgery for now. He see J as a candidate for a full tonsil/adenoid (again with the spelling ?) removal plus tubes, but they usually (except in extreme cases (ahem, KATHY)) prefer to wait until the t/a are more developed before they remove them (4-6 Years old, he says). In order to avoid 2 surgeries, we're trying to hold off a couple of years.
I happen to agree with him, for now. We'll see how this cold season goes, poor guy! We spent the entire two months of Jan and Feb lasts year sick with EIs. I'm praying we don't have a repeat!
Lol, I was proofreading my post since everyone is so particular about grammar today (joking!) but did you notice I said t/a up there? Totally not on purpose.
  Totally not on purpose.
Our pedi and the ENT pretty much left it up to us. They said he'd had enough to qualify, but that since they cleared with Augmentin, it was ok if we didn't want to. I, however, have ulcerative colitis, so Ben's already at increased risk for getting it because of that, and heavy antibiotic usage is another risk factor. So that really influenced our decision.
awwww poor guy. I hate the not knowing but it's nice he can help you diagnose
I hope he is better soon.
